I don't know how the system works with Battlefield 2142, I used to play it on the PC with my PC friends. Now that I have a Mac, am I still able to play with my PC friends if I get the mac version of the game? Can mac/pc players play with Xbox players?

I've tried it with bootcamp and it worked really well, but i wasn't able to test it with my friends. I have a Macbook Pro with an Intel Processor.

Hi AstroJones

You will still be able to play BF2142 against your PC-owning friends if you have the Mac version.

But you won't be able to play against xbox players. This is because the xbox multiplayer system is a paid-for subscription service operated by MS for the exclusive use of xbox players.

What about Team Fortress 2, battlefield 2 and Gears of War Multiplayer playing with PC and Xbox users, or is it pretty much the same that all xbox games are strictly xbox only. (I don't want to have to buy an xbox!!! Well I kind of do but I really shouldn't)

IIRC the console versions of UT3 (not yet out for Mac) can play vs. PC/Mac, but it's an option you have to choose, not by default. Because consoles play UT3 slower and the rules/controls are enough different to be a problem. So I think they were going to include it as kind of an experimental option. I'm not 100% they went ahead with that though.

Interesting, I just might have to convince my boyfriend to buy it for his PC then. I really wanted to be able to play Team Fortress 2.

As far as I know, there aren't any games that allow PC and Xbox users to play online together. The root of it, as usual, is money: PC multiplayer games have traditionally been run on private servers, relying on dedicated volunteers to provide the host and do any admin.

The Xbox Live service is the polar opposite - being a paid-for service run by Microsoft. MS probably went this route to ensure that they could guarantee their gamers a reliable online service and not rely on the whims of private individuals.

yes, you can play 2142 with the normal PC players. The Mac version of the game is actually the PC version running in Cider. So there is no problems

Not exactly relevant to this thread, but i will say it anyway

If you want you can use your mac game on windows but it gets a bit more complicated, but in a way easy to do.
