So how's about it? I'm getting the 2.16ghz C2D MBP with a 128mb X1600 and a gig of ram. I don't mind dropping to medium on a few settings, or running at a little less than native res, so would it be possible to run Battlefield 2142 at acceptable fps on one of these beasts?

And in general, will we see much of a gaming improvement in the C2Ds over the CDs?

In general, games like battlefield 2 and battlefield 2142 tend to be very GPU bound. Unless you're running at an extremely low res like 640x480, your bottleneck is going to be the x1600 mobility and the core 2 duo won't be significantly faster than the core duo unless you're playing with lots of bots.

Let's say we're running it at 1280x800, on medium settings, with HDR and that sort of thing turned off, what kinda fps are we talking about?

you're asking for specifics on a system no one owns yet... just wait until you get it and see what kind of results you get, not what people may theorize about or what other people would get

I was just told the game wasn't particularly CPU dependant, so surely the performance would be similar to that of a CD MBP with 1gb RAM. So what are MBP owner's experiences with B2142 like?

The testers downclocked their C2Duo Extremes and A64 FX-60s down more than 1Ghz and noticed no drop in framerates. Granted, they were testing on a local server with no bots or players, but that still says a lot.

Well actual players slash bots on the sever would be what would stress the CPU but in any case you are right.

I've tried BF2142 on my MBP, the framerates are great at medium settings at 1440x900 (you'll need to tweak the shortcut target line to run widescreen res), oh but I do have my X1600 running at 500/500 clockspeeds up from 300/300 which is a MASSIVE jump, so much in fact I doubt you can run at that res at stock clockspeeds.

Why? I run BF2 at stock speeds on my 1.83 MBP. I get great FPS at native res. ;)
