I just updated my Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz with system 10.5.4 and for some reason Battlefield 2142 plays unbelievably slowly now.

Before the update i had the video and sound settings at maximum(never got widescreen to work even with the 1.5 patch) and gameplay never slowed, but since installing the Mac updates I have had to set the video and sound settings at the absolute bottom and the game still runs too slowly to play.

I tried deleting the game and reinstalling it but that did nothing.

I know my computer isn't the fastest, but the game was playing absolutely fine at the highest settings before the OS update and now it is virtually unplayable.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there some way I can up the memory allocation to the game application?(I know you could do that way back with OS 9.)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I looked around google for an answer and it seems like other people are having the same problems as you. What someone said to do though is repair disk permissions. Idk if that will work but give it a shot.

I don't even know what version of leopard I'm running. I remember seeing 10.5.1 somewhere. But give the disk permissions thing a
shot. One guy with a 17" mbp reported it was slow for a few minutes then returned to the same speed as 10.5.3. He said he suspected house cleaning in the background which would take away memory.

Hi,

As a 3D programmer, I can guarantee you that 10.5.4 update includes buggy drivers. Really hope that 10.5.5 will fix those problems.

Thanks for the Disk Utility advice. Unfortunately, it didn't improve gameplay.

I guess I will have to wait until there is another system update that addresses the 3D rendering issues with 10.5.4.

Yea a lot of people are having gaming issues w/v. 10.5.4, including me. My graphics for Halo Universal blow lol and it is a known fact that 10.5.4 contains buggy drivers. So we all hafta wait til they come out w/10.5.5 sorry man :(

i downloaded the 10.5.5 update and still have problems with choppiness. perhaps my computer has been hit by something else that is affecting it's performance, but the problem started with the 10.5.4 update and hasn't been fixed.

i do know that the OS update did correct lots of graphics problems, but it didn't seem to do anything for me.

does anyone else still have problems, or am i the only one?

there's still some problems to be fixed. it's no surprise though because even SPORE runs decent at best on my MBP under osx... boot camp it runs as smooth as butter on an ice cube.
