Here
Ok I have a iPhone 3g. I also have the BB service/insurance/coverage plan. A few hours ago I dropped it, not submerged, in a very very small puddle of pop. I took it out and saw some water in the dock port. So I held it up and heated it with my breath to dry it. I looked and the sensor was triggered. The phone was on but it wasn't enough water to get inside the phone and mess anything up. Since the water hit the bottom I checked the speaker and microphone to see if it worked. It didn't. I restarted the phone and it worked. The mic also worked.

So here's the question. Will best buy replace my iPhone? I read somewhere that if it wasn't fully submerged, they would replace it.
And I know this is unlikely, but would they give me the box sealed? Because I have been looking into upgrading to the 3G S. And selling it sealed in box would make it do better on eBay

They're trained to always look at the water sensor when iPhones are brought in, so chances are they're gonna check it and laugh in your face.

Ha

I have no idea what your insurance does and does not cover. But the iPhone water sensor is exactly for this sort of situation. Providing the apple technician who looks at your phone is competent in his knowledge. I doubt they will recommend a new one be given to you

The Best Buy Black Tie Coverage DOES cover water damage. Tripping a water sensor should not void that coverage.

OP, Please post what happens when you take this in. I am interested as I have purchased the coverage for my 3G S and am debating as to whether I should keep it or not. Thanks!

Thank you. And concerning wether or not to keep the coverage or not, I think it is worth it. While it is noticebly high in price, it covers what apple doesn't. Also if you're not close to an apple store like me, it is less of a hassle. Oh and i am not 100% sure, but i think it doesnt matter if you are in contract with AT&T or not, it is covered.

And i will be bringing it in tomorrow. Anyone know if they will send it in for repair? Because when i brought it in last time, they replaced it on the spot. Although i dont know the policy for water damage.

Thanks
And for the record, if you bring it in, bring it in the box(with accesories) with a receipt. It took a long time my first time because I didnt have it with me.

Home Owner Insurance

I have USAA home owners insurance and for $8.00/year I get $3,000 computer insurance which also covers my new iphone. If it is stolen or lets say I drop it and the display is cracked it is covered less a $100.00 deductible. It also covers my Dell laptop and my Apple MacPro.

My son touchdown spiked my iPhone today, right after I decided to sell it on eBay and get the 3GS. I have the BB coverage. Walked in, asked them what it covers, and within 5 minutes I had a loaner phone and mine was shipped to apple. Supposedly Apple will immediately ship a new (read: refurbished) phone immediately. So I'd say I'm satisfied with it.
