When setting up custom domain in iCloud+ Mail, iCloud.com offers to change Cloudflare (my DNS management tool) settings automatically, which is nice supposedly. However, it turns out this automation is buggy and deleted extra CNAME records for my other services which is a bummer.
If you are going thru similar steps, my suggestion is to be extra careful, and manually changing DNS records is tedious but safer.
