I was going through my Duplicates and noticed that some aren't duplicates; they might be photos that are similar but not the same. For example, two photos of a group taken moments apart, one person in the group facing the camera in the first photo, and in the other photo they turned their head to the side.

I wish there were a way to mark photos as NOT duplicates anymore so I can clear the list. But if you're going through cleaning out duplicates be aware of this as you might delete photos you actually want to keep if you're not paying close attention!

I was using the photo duplicate feature and found that it does not keep location data. It merged pics with my old Amazon backup images but did not keep the location. Is that a known issue? I also seem to have lost keywords

Does anyone know if the Duplicates feature is using file checksum, image processing, or both?
Isn't Duplicates only on Ventura? I will not be able to see my Monterey Mac until the end of the week.

Yeah… this feature isn't going anywhere near my Photos library.

Reminds me of the problem with Apple Music merging libraries.

Music I can always get back (mostly).
Photo memories are gone forever…

I recall reading somewhere that it uses 128x128 thumbnails for comparison purposes. And yes, duplicates is only on Ventura, iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.
