I’ve been a big follower of Steve Jobs, read his books and some of his papers, and he always likened the PC industry to the automobile industry. ie we always will have garbage trucks, motorcycles, sports cars, SUV and tons of other vehicles a variety is always needed.

Which is why I like iPad OS. Being it’s own separate secure OS which is safe and fast and has features a MacBook Or Mac Desktop does not have. Also developers would have a nightmare coding emulation you run x86 software on Arm A12X CPU not to mention a 4GB -6GB RAM limit.

So I’d say no being honest I would not like to see, the iPad Pro run Mac OS. Tell us why you think different or why you agree ?

You bet I do

No, but i would like to have a bit more flexibility and freedom to what you would expect on MacOS. iPadOS is a giant leap forward. I expect WWDC 2020 to take it further.

No, though I would like iPad OS to get more features like mac OS. Continuing to develop the file system, maybe eventually floating window support, if they can find a way of making it less clunky with touch input.

If I wanted a tablet that runs a full desktop OS, I’d get a Surface Pro.

No. I like iPadOS being VERY fast and light. But, I’d want Apple to bring Final Cut to iPadOS. We need a few high functioning pro apps to use the A chips to their full potential.

i think padOS is going in the right direction tbh especially after safari became a desktop class web browser. Apple's biggest issue is that they're the only people in the tablet game. I think tablet innovation is not going to be good.

Yes and no. Multitasking needs to improve as it is needlessly clunky. I agree with the floating windows but would settle for the slide-in window that had a button that showed a list of all apps that can be in the slide in floating window...or be able to pull them over from the expose window. Certain apps have similar functionality, albeit not separate programs but files, but I think it should be doable. And full monitor support would be good. But full OS....nah.

All subjective... Personally? I'd like flexible window support, secondary monitor out and a fully functional file system without sandboxes. Doesn't need to be running MacOS.

Logic Pro too?
Logic would be great but I’ve been doing most things I need with a combination of Auria, Multitrack DAW, and Final Touch... Ive been iOS only for years now and really the only thing that’s needed is just more high functioning apps, and that’s on the developers.

I fondly remember back in the late 90’s having an Amiga 4000T that ran AmigaOS, Windows 98, and Mac OS8.
It was great being able to run dedicated software and pull/push files with data between the different OS’s.
It was silent until you selected it.....

Moving rapidly to today; I would love the ability to have my iPad Pro run it’s native iPad OS and have Mac OS available in the background as and when needed.
It would save me carrying both my MacBook Pro and iPad Pro, with the added benefit of being able to transfer data seamlessly using just the one device.

I don't want my iPad to be a Mac. It's a different tool, with a different user interface. I would not want the iOS/iPadOS UI to change in order to be more Mac-like, any more than I'd want macOS to change to be more like iOS (I would not want my Mac to automatically boot to Launch Pad rather than Desktop, would you?). Extra layers of UI taking up extra storage space on every device, even though a relatively small user base would actually use it.

Would these "I want iPad to be a Mac" people be satisfied with a dual-boot configuration, where they could switch between non-touch macOS and touch-optimized iPadOS? Probably not.

What they want runs contrary to some of the key design goals of iOS/iPadOS - keeping the bloody user from mucking with the system/making it harder for exploits to be deployed. This isn't about the relatively few, truly competent computer users who can manage the responsibility; it's about the hordes of end-users who needed to be saved from themselves; the users who have happily abandoned the complexity of PC use in favor of something that demands far less knowledge and skill, or simply don't need all the capabilities of a desktop OS when they step away from their desktop. Why should they have to accept greater complexity?

How many USB-C ports should this macPad have? Certainly the one USB-C on the recently-departed MacBook was inadequate. It's going to need a self-contained Recovery partition like a real Mac, none of this "connect to iTunes" bs. And user-upgradable RAM, multi-display capability, support for eGPU, Terminal and sudo, cooling fans to support video transcoding for hours on end...

You want a truck? Buy a truck, not a motorcycle.

Short answer; no. MacOS is not designed for touchscreen interaction and even making things bigger would look awkward. iPad should still have its own dedicated OS. However, if iPadOS could have a proper file management system and true multi-tasking (separate windows) like MacOS does that would be perfect.

Totally agree with this line of thinking. There are many programs that Windows is much better suited for as opposed to IOS or Mac OS. Most medical research programs that run genetic analysis work optimally within Windows. However, I can run them under Parallels with reduced efficiency but they still work. Surface Pro is a "beast" when it comes to conducting research. Also Epic Hyperspace functions so much better under Windows on a very large screen. Again, it will work using Parallels with some loss of power on a MBP.

Also, I prefer the iPad to have a distinct and separate operating system from the MBP line. They are two different machines geared toward specific use cases. When I'm in the cockpit I want my iPad with Foreflight. On the ground, I prefer my MBP. Always have and always will. I like and use them both but for different situations.

Both. iPadOS for everyday use and being able to hook up the iPad Pro to a monitor (iPad basically turns into a powerful Mac mini) and boot into macOS to do some work that can’t be done on iPadOS.

AX arm cpu is now so powerful and in next 1-2 years even more so, maybe we can get a dual OS working.
