Something I can live with as this is a beta - but be warned that I can't get any extensions to work in Safari (LastPass, AdBlock etc.)

It seems this will be a pretty stable release, they are not changing that much....EXCEPT THE FILESYSTEM.

curious about 3rd party apps like ms office, adobe..

My Extensions were messed up too.

Here is how I fixed it:

1. Go to users/*yourname*/Library/Safari/Extensions (easiest way is to go to Finder, click Go in the menubar, hold the Option key to reveal "Library"). Your old extensions will still be there.

2. Dub-Click on each file you want to reinstall.

3. This will take you to Safari where it asks if you want to View Extension page, click yes.

4. Click Install now on the Extension page (delete or move original file before installation to avoid duplicates)

Unfortunately, it looks like the extensions are "lost" again every time you quit Safari. Oh well, Im sure there will be a fix soon enough.

EDIT: It's worth noting that when you click the usual links to the Safari Extension web page it now opens the App Store app, presumably because Apple is going to move all extension downloads there in the future.

Extensions seem to be working fine for me.

After the initial slow-down for indexing, everything is smooth as butter now.

Adguard and Ghostery are working fine but Showpass isn't on the gallery and trying to install it after downloading it shows the error "Safari can’t install this extension" which is what I suspect* OP was seeing.

*though it's hard to tell because no-one actually posted what error they are seeing. Related Protip: if you see an error it's good to mention it otherwise people end up talking about 5 different things as one.

SOLVED:
I closed safari then located ~/Library/Safari the extensions folder was a broken alias for some reason! Deleting it, opened safari and like a champ all extensions installs fine! Woohoo!
