Well today I received the BeastCage for the 1.7x tele converter lens that I have from BeastGrip. This is a fine rig! The frame is machined aluminum and the lens is well built. Combined with the iPhone, it is a little heavy. But the quality I get from the lens with the 1x 48mp camera is fantastic. Yes, I know there is already a 3X camera on the iPhone but you put these external lenses over your best camera that has the best sensor and image quality to get better results. I purchased this lens for portrait photography, 24 mm at 48 megapixels is just too wide for up close portraits. This gives me approximately 45mm equivalent to 35mm format. I took some photos of the night sky with it tonight and I’m pretty impressed. The optics are sharp and very clean. I had to use the Even Longer app to get the camera properly focused. The default camera will not focus on the stars with an external lens attached, low contrast I suppose. Lame!!! I set the Even Longer app to star trails mode and the BeastCage was guided on my Skywatcher Star Adventurer for a 2 minute exposure so the stars will not trail across the frame. Photos were edited in Lightroom mobile. The sky conditions were less than favorable, the transparency was average and the moon is up. But I’m very happy with this setup!!!
