BeatsX keep disconnecting from my ipad

Anyone had issues with these? I use them all the time on my iPhone but when I switch to iPad they keep disconnecting after a couple of minutes. The earphones stay switched on, they just play a little 'disconnected' sound and then disconnect. They still appear in control centre and I can manually connect - for a minute or two.

I have just updated to the new iPad Pro 10.5, and also bought an Apple Pencil - don't know if that might affect anything.

Any suggestions? Anyone else have issues?
