Spent a few minutes playing around with BeeJive's new iphone AIM/ichat/googletalk/etc client and I give it a solid two thumbs up.

Meebo was really clumsy for me, but this works much better as it was designed for the iphone.

Just in case any one didn't read about it amidst the flurry of "iphone is missing x" posts, here is the link:

Between this and telekinesis (http://code.google.com/p/telekinesis), looks like the first wave of high-quality iphone apps are starting come in.

So tell me. Can I leave it on running in the background and still get calls?

Nope.

This is why I am going to Sprint Evdo rev 0's network, broadband speeds and still be able to receive calls. Plus I can run Mundu (Third party app AIM/Yahoo/Etc etc IM) in the background while writing emails and listening to music.

Apple has long ways to go.

True, but I live in Manhattan, where I am always within striking distance of a wifi signal, whether at work or at home. The only time I'm on edge is during my brief walks to and from the subway.

The reason I am sticking with the iPhone is simple. I use my mobile device for two main purposes (in addition to calling ofcourse), 1) web browsing and 2) movies. The iPhone has the best web browser available on a mobile device hands down and the screen on the iPhone is a lot brighter and colorful than any other smartphone screen I've seen.

Of course you can, calls only go to vm when you are actively transmitting data on EDGE and that doesn't happen very frequently on IM.

I like beehive better than meebo, and its a great solution until the iChat client we all know is coming.

I love it!!! Thank you so much for sharing!

And I agree about the negative threads. I joined this site in anticipation of the iPhone, and I return to celebrate with other iPhone owners and/or answer questions for potential buyers. Instead I've been distracted by the negative ones. So again, thank you for this. I can't wait to use it at work tomorrow.

Fellow Manhattan-ite here. I agree.

Works well for me as well. I loved Jivetalk on the BB, so I'm glad they've started this project.

Hopefully they'll keep it free..

i have to say i'm fairly impressed with this app, much more so than i was with meebo on the iphone. still, i'd like apple to release ichat for the iphone.

didn't work for me. I got a javascript error trying to use google talk.

Yah I kept getting javascript errors at first too, then i stopped trying to log in and went to use mobile msn webpage which sucked cause it didn't auto refresh. Then i read how ppl like BeeJive on the forums, and how well it works for them. So I went back and tried it again. Turns out it was me typing in the wrong login info. For MSN I kept retyping the password but was still getting java errors, so i retyped the login name eventhough it looked right to me and that fixed my msn login. then i tried AIM no problems. then GoogleTalk, logged right in. It does seem to give java error messages when you type in the wrong account info from my experience.

Now that I was able to log in to my accounts it works great~! :D
