I run an IRC network, and I use AdiumX (free) for gtalk, icq, yahoo, aol, msn, jabber, bonjour, etc .. I really don't need another IM.
The 3 whole dollars discount isn't worth a 'try' tbh.
Sir, what in the world are you talking about? Adium is great for the desktop, but it's NOT the iPhone App Store.
And yet there are people talking about suing MobileChat...
Last I checked, that was only three dollars also.
while i don't disagree with it being an excellent IM program. i still think Beejive needs to hurry and release URL/Youtube linking support. picture support etc. $12-15 just to send ONLY text bugs me
I think I heard in some other threads that BeeJive was going to give free updates for life for their IM client on the iPhone. For $13 to $16, they better.
I've been one to completely disregard this app due to its high price and have waited for a price drop to buy it... $13 is still more than I've spent on any single app, and I'm still not 100% sure yet... but I agree that it's probably unlikely that they'll lower it further in the near future. Besides, if they did offer this app for $16 all along and then suddenly drop it to $5, a LOT of people that already bought it would be really mad and feel ripped off- I know I would.
I can only feel sorry for people that deprive themselves of this great app over a measly $13. There aren't too many apps in the app store that are worth paying for but this is one of the few.

I really had a very big expectation for this app, and I am glad to report that it did not disappoint. I have setup the push notification email to my SMS and it's worked out pretty well so far.
The best part about Beejive is not *just* for its push network, but for its unbelievably fast and highly responsive interface. In fact, it is even more responsive than most native Apple apps themselves.
Having said all of that though... I still hope that they can change the icon and the chat view. Blue and Green bubbles are not really my thing.

I too was skeptical since I got burned with my first IM purchase that so many were so hot for it before the release. You all know which one.
I agree with most everyone using BJ it really is worth the 15 bucks it sold for. Remember that price is cheaper than the BB version.

ok, I stated earlier that I thought $13 was still too much for this app and I was on the fence with buying it now. Since I bought a gift card on ebay for a pretty low price, I decided it'd technically be less for me in the long run so I went ahead and bought it.
And my verdict after messing with it for a while......
It's a great app, but still not worth $13 or even the full $16
Yes the interface is really nice, yes it suppprts several IM networks, yes it has push email support, etc. However, I only really need AIM and maybe Jabber, the interface still leaves some things to be desired (I really like swiping back and forth to change chats in the AOL client for example), and I don't have push email and checking my email regularly will eat battery. The crappy MobileChat supports SMS push but this doesn't? Give me a break. Also, why can't I send pictures? Why aren't links and phone numbers clickable?
It seems that with the high cost and the high quality elsewhere, this app should do all that. Its UI is cool yes. It's not as fast or faster than real native apps like someone said, however. I notice lag when opening a new chat, for example.
Overall I do really like this app. It has a lot of very polished features like with notifying you of a new message from someone other than who you're talking to and letting you choose the recipient from a cool slide-down screen, etc. However I still don't see how this is worth the high cost in comparison to other apps. If it were $3 or $4 it'd be a no-brainer.. Maybe even $5 or $6. But not at a price in the double digits.

I agree with you with most of the things you have said.
$13 is a premium price for the App Store and Beejive is really not worth that price if you *cannot take advantage of its Push network*. However, having a reliable network that's as fast as their servers combined with a very fast user interface makes it quite close.
About the speed, I really am sorry if I have misled you. Launching Maps, Contacts, Stop Watch starts up pretty slow for me. Especially the Stop Watch which I use very frequently. Beejive seems to be very highly optimized in this respect, and the login is instanteous when I am on a fast 3G network or Wifi.

I believe beejive picture support is coming if I'm not mistaken. Also MC does NOT support their own SMS push notification. They just tap into AIM's SMS notification for just that protocol. And even that doesn't work. Beejive supports their own SMS/Email notification for all protocols. As far as price it'S totally worth it IMHO. It's already half the price of it's BB counterpart. I really don't think Beejive would drop the price of their app/service to $5 to cater to kids with paper routes.
