I'm sue this has been asked before, but is BeejiveIM actually any better than Palringo? What do you get for you're £9.49? I see neither support Facebook? Also, do any work well with backgrounder on JB phones?

I had been using Palringo for a long time and I'm glad to say that I payed for BeejiveIM.
I'm not sure of any significant changes but once you start using it you'll notice it's so much better.

you pay a premium for it but it does everything it advertised and better than the others. I think it's worth it. They are a respectable company that has apps on win mobile and blakberrys to.

Beejive is a great app and well worth the price. Others already spoke on that so I'll just address your other question.

I only used with backgrounder for a short period but it did work. I'm still jailbroken but rather use the email feature.

I'm guessing the email feature emails you when you get a response? I'm also guessing this is useless with gmail on the iphone as it only updates every 15 mins or so?

Yup. You can use a free mail2web account for free push, or Yahoo. MobileMe works as well.

If you have unlimited texting, just use that instead of email. Simply put your email address in as +1(your number)@txt.att.net if you are in the US. If you are outside the US, I am not sure what your numbers are, but it will work.

Thats how I do it since push is unreliable and i have unlimited texts.

Sounds brilliant. Have unlimited texting on o2 UK - anyone with any experience with this?

if you do use the mail to feature and don't have text messages like me I would stick with the free mail2web as Yahoo will take about 2-10 mins to actually work - I used yahoo first then found mail2web and did a test - sending it to both - mail to web got the email almost instant and yahoo(so called) 'push' got it about 7 mins. later.

I like mail2web so much I am think of converting to it as my normal email as right now I only use it for Beejive!!

And yes Beejive is Worth it! I got Beejive on the black Friday sale but I now can say I should have bought it sooner as it works and is well worth it!

I would say if you want to use IM fully on the iPhone then it is worth the money.

If you just want to jack around with IM on your phone for 5 minutes and then go back to using your computer again for IM, use one of the free programs.

definitely worth it, when moving from palringo to Beejive I thought Beejive was the best app out there. The email "push" is more accurate, it doesn't crash or freeze up, you can stay on for 24 hours, its overall much better, review of it here: link
