Since I got the new MBP last year, my 2013 MBP has been unplugged hanging out on my counter. Tonight, I plugged it in for the first time to double check everything was backed up before I overwrite the HD and try to sell it. I backed up before but I'm paranoid about backups and wanted to do another check.

Problem is, the little light on the charger was orange for hours as it charged, it never turned green and when I opened the shell to try to turn it on, I got nothing.

Is my computer dead or is there something I can do (take it to an Apple Store, etc)?

I am not sure about the voltage or capacity on a 2103 MBP, but I do know if a lithium battery goes below a certain voltage it will no longer charge. Normally a battery will shut off before the voltage gets too low, but I am guessing you left it unplugged for a very long time, which could have brought the voltage down below the minimum.

Does it power up when plugged in?

Nope, I tried it both unplugged after hours of charging and plugged in afterwards. Both with no dice

That didn't seem to work. The charging light is terminally orange. Never turns green, even after hours of charging. Doing the SMC reset did cause the charge light to go green for a split second before going back to orange. Still won't turn on though
Not good. That is the main trouble shooting option for battery issues.

BTW - orange = charging

Although it seems its not charging. Have you given in a sec after SMC reset?

I did give it a sec. No luck.

I know orange is charging :) It's a bad sign when it's been orange for 8+ hours of charging and never turns green

Doesn't seem to be a battery problem if it won't turn on when connected to the charger. Could be a charger or port problem. Might be worth checking to see if the port and charger connector are clean. But you may indeed need to take it to Apple as suggested above.

Is there any way you can try another power brick?
I had a similar issue last year; I spent ages trying to fathom out why it wouldn't charge yet the orange light was on. In the end I borrowed a friends mains charger and this time the mbp turned on and charged.
Always check the cable as well.
