Just a quick question, how is getting on a computer and logging onto this website easier than actually just calling your misplaced phone?

Sometimes you don't have access to another phone. If you're home alone and don't have a landline, for example. This happens to me all the time, which is what inspired me to write this app.

Now what differentiates this from the one offered via MobileMe?

The MobileMe service does exactly what this app does, plus much more (remote wipe, getting a gps location, etc.) Those features are beyond the scope of what a third-party app is capable of.

If you already have MobileMe, there's no reason to buy Beep My Cell

The big difference between this app and MobileMe is the price. Beep My Cell is $.99 one-time, and MobileMe is $99 per year. (though it obviously includes many other features)

I've just downloaded it and installing it now.

I think it's a great idea. I rarely lose my phone around the house, but if I ever do, I'm glad I can use this to help me find it. I'm sure there are people that are constantly misplacing their phone and have to call it all the time.

Just tried it now. Works great!

Can't try it while i'm in work but is the beep audible enough to find it?

It's very loud on my 3G. Although, it's affected by your ringer volume as well as the silent switch. So if your phone is on silent, it basically just vibrates.

That would be me. I'll often leave my phone in a pants or coat pocket and wonder where it is. I rarely put my silence switch on, so this would work for me.

The other thing about calling your own phone is that it eventually rolls into VM after 10-15 seconds or so. Finding the phone in that timeframe often isn't realistic so if this beeps constantly it'll give one the time to hunt down the source.

That's too bad. The only time I would need this is if my phone was lost somewhere in the house and on vibrate/silent.

The Find My iPhone feature of MobileMe will make the phone sound even when the silent switch is on. (I acknowledge the cost as discussed above, which isn't for everyone, but this feature is relevant to the discussion.)

Sorry, but useless App. I never misplace my phone when the ringer is on, only when the silent switch is flipped.

Might not be very useful to you, but will certainly be a great benefit to others.

Perhaps you would like us to give a balanced review of the apps that you have written.

@Vizin-thanks for the codes mate.

I find it very useful and $.99 < $99.

I suspect there are many people for whom this is also a useful app.

@Vizin thanks for the code - I will write a review after I've had some more time with the app.

Alternatively if you already have growl + prowl, you can get the firefox plugin so you can send selected text (upto 10,000 characters) to your phone via push, which I imagine would do just the same as this app..

I do think this app is a great idea though, it would just be better if you could overide the silent switch.

I agree that overriding the volume settings and vibrate switch would be a great feature, but unfortunately it's one of those things Apple doesn't let third party apps have control over.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I hope you find it useful. :)

I will definitely keep it on my phone and use it whenever possible.

It would be great if you can add a new feature to rival MobileMe a bit. It would be great if you could have a text box on your website where you can write something and get it pushed to the phone (in case the phone is lost and you want to recover it.) I guess you can always send a text message to it, but this feature would probably make it more appealing to people.
