Devices: iPhone 13 Pro Max, latest iOS Update, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, Visible pre-paid as the carrier using both cell connectivity and WiFi Calling

Scenario: When I have a phone call, I can carry it on no problem using the iPhone as just a solo handset. Call quality sounds fine, no issues and sounds crystal clear whether on WiFi or Cellular connection

Issues: When I connected to AirPods Pro or Max, the caller sounds like They’re talking like a robot. They sound slightly garbled. I can make out the words but it’s inconsistent quality. I’ve tried this with just one AirPods Pro, or both or the Max. I’ve unpaired the AirPods and re-connected with a full reset, no issue. If I go back to just phone or speakerphone, the issue goes away, pair in AirPod and it all goes down south.

I can listen to music via Apple Music to both AirPods without any issues with sound quality. Songs sound fine. This issue started after the last iOS update. My iPhone 13 on the previous iOS update was fine. I think whatever updates came out between iOS & AirPods in the last 6 weeks is causing this.

Given that this happens on two different AirPods devices, I think it could be a Bluetooth issue with the iPhone 13 and not an issue with the cell phone carrier or both of the AirPods. Both of these AirPods pre-dated the iPhone 13 Pro and on my 11 Pro they didn’t do this.

Should the next step be a call to Apple?

If problem with firmware is suspected it is good to indicate the exact version numbers. I have:

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 15.2
AirPods Pro, firmware 4C165
I have not noticed any degraded sound with phonecalls

Maybee do some more testing with other bluetooth devices, if there are signs that your iP 13 has bad reception.

AirPods Pro are 4C165 version number
AirPods Max are 4C165 as well
iOS is 15.2 on iPhone

I unfortunately don’t have any other Bluetooth audio devices I can test with. I use CarPlay in the car and that works okay.
