Just thought I'd point out....

I saved a little money...

By using a pile of my old magazines:

:p

And the MacBook isn't leaning on the stack as precariously as it seems - the lip on the screen hinge sits comfortably on the edge of the magazines. It's really stable.

I knew I'd find a way to make use of all these old mags one day :)

I wouldn't want to have my MB rested like that, maybe put something in the gap so if it does fall it doesn't fall far.

You could always lower your chair so that the screen is at eye level.

that could be uncomfortable if you're using other accessories on the desk, though. I know I'd find it annoying using my tablet when the chair's on the floor. ;)

Meh, when I use my laptop I tend to be cross legged on the sofa with the laptop on the coffee table or I'm laying my my stomach using it.

That goes well with the high-end design elements of your MacBook and Harman Kardons.

Thanks! :D That stack of 15-20 magazines, at £3.50 each or whatever, probably cost me significantly more than a much nicer looking stand, too. But it's money already spent, you can't see the mags, and it's a bedroom setup.

Way ahead of ya. ;) I folded a microfiber cloth in half and put it under there so it has a little cushion.

In the name of science though, I did already test what'd hapen if it dropped and... nothing. It slides down smoothly to the surface almost in slo-mo. It takes a lot for it to budge anyway, so I don't see it happening. :)

Nice recycling

Heh, looks precarious but not a bad setup at all. Myself, I went with the hardcover route. A stack of 3 textbooks on my desk raises it to eye level and frees up room on the bookshelf.

Technically, its not a laptop, its a notebook. Then again, who uses it on their lap, its bloody uncomfortable.

I don't worry about its technical name; in common vernacular, a Macbook is a laptop, and I'll keep calling it one, along with (nearly) every other human being. And yes, I use it on my lap almost exclusively (and it's very comfortable).

I often use it on my chest

yes, i'm sure it does have an effect on it.

plus the magazines will get hot, creating warm ambient air around it. It'll just suck warm air right back in.

but the temperature is probably low enough that its harmless i'm sure. The fans will just be on at full speed.

I've seen my friend plop his blackbook onto his bed, the blankets creating a barrier. Though the fans were on high, it never caught fire. :)
