Belkin Wireless G Router setup help...?

Hi everyone,

I've searched for this in the forum, but nothing helped me out.

I'm fairly new to wireless, but i know all about its security issues and that it should be a secure setup.

I have no idea how the hell to set up a password so noone can access my wireless network without it?

There is nothing on the install disk, nothing in the PDF help file, and i can't find much online.

Please help me, i'm paranoid about outsiders stealing my network.

It is a Belkin Wireless G Router,

i'm not sure about your belkin, but if its anything like my netgear wireless router, then there should be some sort of website that you go to (obviously using an ethernet cable), which should be pretty easy to set up WPA protection etc. check your manuals for what looks like an internet address without the 'www' part.

Thanks for the reply, but isn't there a way i can do it through OS X rather than Belkin website?

Try opening a browser window and typing the following in:

192.168.1.1

If it requests a username and password, the username defaults to admin and the password to either admin or password for most routers that I know of. Consult your manual if that IP address didn't work or if the username/pass did not work.

Once logged in there should be a way to set up security measures. In my router, which is made by a different brand, I have a 'wireless options' page which has security options on it.

Yeah the address was 192.168.2.1:88

Set up a 128-Bit Hex password for my router...

...But, i can still access the network from my PowerBook without ever having to type in the 13 digit Hex Key i just assigned to my router...!

The router has been restarted, i'm fairly confused now.

hmm its a little odd then. can you use WPA? ive found that to be quite good
