Benchmark tests, how fast really is a MBP?

OK, the old processor question. Currently I have an old Fujitsu PC which runs on a Celeron 997MHz with 384MB Ram. It is just holding on to life waiting until a new MBP is announced.

However, how much faster would the 2.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB Ram MBP be that my current setup? Of course I know that this question is impossible to answer from the info given here, but of course a 2.33 GHz mac is going to be more than 2.33 times faster than a ~1GHz pc right?

Sorry, my brain just fell out onto my keyboard. You're comparing Apples with oranges mate. Not only is the architecture different in the CPUs, but almost every component in each machine is different, plus they run different operating systems. For a worthwhile answer, ask for something more specific such as a comparison of each machine importing a CD. What do you use the machine for?

Not only is the architecture different in the CPUs, but almost every component in each machine is different, plus they run different operating systems. For a worthwhile answer, ask for something more specific such as a comparison of each machine importing a CD. What do you use the machine for?

Ok I realise that this comparison is somewhat futile, but for instance. My pc JUST about handles a skype video call, but the processor is at 100% and forget doing anything else. On a MBP can you run like 10 things at once, still have a video conference and not notice a slowdown...?

Hope you got your brain back in. :p
 
there will be a HUGE difference, 2.33 GHZ is pretty good but with the 2GB of ram ull be flying!, so yes there will be a big difference, do u have a tablet?

i can open all the apps on my mbp and have a skype video call...
 
I think you will see at least a 800%-1000% difference between your computer and any macbook-macbook pro with 2gb ram.
 
Well, people in this thread are right about 2 things. One, it is true, you cannot compare clock speeds across architectures. Two, the MacBook Pro will be way more than 2.3x as fast as the computer youre using. Way more.
 
man, 20 times faster...

all the things to take into consideration:
the CPU architecture
the CPU frequency
FSB speed
the kind of RAM, and amount memory.
hell, theres too many to even list that makes the mac much superior...

Anything 5 yrs newer will make a big difference in speed; technology makes huge leaps in 5 years.
 
It seems like everybody is forgetting the fact that not only is Core 2 Duo DUAL CORE, its also the most advanced architecture ever. A 2.33GHZ core 2 duo will whip the blind **** out of a 3.6GHZ Pentium 4 or equivalent. The fact that you're coming from a sub-ghz Celeron will be mind blowing. It actually might be something like 1000% better.
 
Yeah exactly...its like comparing a 1Litre Nissan Micra (that i drive) to a Ferrari or something.

I run on my MBP frequently:

Skype with video
itunes
Mail
Safari
Microsoft Word
iPhoto
Sometimes making music on Reason 3 and Logic Pro

ALLLLLLL at the same time without a hitch mate.

Seriously, even a Macbook will kick the celerons butt. :apple:
 
Thanks for the responses guys, looking forward to getting my hands on one of these baby's and doing some real computing.

Interesting to know that Core 2 Duo Dual Core is way faster than even a 3.6GHz Pentium 4. Guess the GHz numbers on their own don't really mean a lot.
