Bent 6s :-(

I upgraded to a 128gb 6s from a 6 for a lot of reasons. One of them was for the more durable aluminum construction b/c I had a few issues w/ my 6 & one of them was bending. So today I take my 6s out of its case for a long overdue cleaning. As soon as I take it out, it felt a little "off" in my hand. So I turn it to its side & what do ya know, it's bent. I am beyond disappointed. My phone is in mint condition & I always take great care of my devices. It's been in an Otterbox since day one & yes it's had a few small drops but nothing major. I really hope Apple stops this OBSESSION with thinness. It's to the point now where it completely ruins the structural integrity of the devices.
I just booked an appointment at the Genius Bar to see what they say this time. Has anyone had bending issues with their 6s ? I did a quick search & couldn't find any posts. Wish me luck !

I have a day one 6+ without a mark or even a hint of a bend. Given your phone is stronger, newer and smaller (therefore harder to bend), I'm not sure how you've taken great care of it.
Good luck with the appointment, but I think you'll not get a new phone.

If you have Apple Care + you'll get a new iPhone 6s for $99.00, otherwise Apple is not going to give you a new phone unless you happen to get a sympathetic genius.

Is it possible that you bent the phone while prying it out of the Otter box? My cover for my iPhone 6 is softer than an Otter box, but it is still tricky to remove. I think if my cover did have the same stiffness as an Otter box, there may have been some risk of bending the phone. I do agree that the 6's do feel flimsier than the 5's. I can get my iPhone 5 out of a stiff Otter box without feeling like the phone is going to get bent in the process. The iPhone 5 has the sturdiness that my iPhone 6 definitely lacks.

Wow. I def got lucky. The Genius that saw me said right off the bat that it’s not a warranty issue & i would have to pay 300 for a replacement b/c they didn’t sell me a bent iPhone. Whatever happened after they sold it to me is considered accidental damage. Fair enough but i refused to pay the 300 & stated i need better options b/c a $900+ phone SHOULD NOT bend like that. She stood her ground, i pushed back, & then she asked if i wanted to see the manager. He comes out, i state my case, & he immediately backs up what the Genius had originally stated. I then said I think that it’s a structural integrity issue plagued by the design of the phone. My wife’s 5s has been through the ringer & that isn’t bent. I even brought in the kids iPad Mini 2, took off the case & asked him “would you agree that this has been through the ringer ?” This iPad Mini is destroyed with scratches, dents, food & drink welded to the body & the screen. He was blown away & i pointed out that there is no bends whatsoever on the Mini. He then said they’ll look at it & be right back. He came back & was reluctant to say that he was going to replace it. He said he reached this decision from how the device looked, as it was in pristine condition. Happy camper here.

I honestly can’t wait to see what Apple has in store for their redesign in the 2017 iPhone. I know, i know, the 7 isn’t even out yet, but you can pretty much bet at this point that it’ll have the same design. I now know what all the fuss was about with the 4 & 4s’ design. They’re not only more comfortable in the hand, they’re much more structurally sound

I know what you’re saying, but i really don’t think so. I usually take my time while taking out of it’s case & open the case up carefully in sections

The 6s line was designed with stronger metal so bending wouldn't be an issue. You did get lucky there as far as them providing good customer service.

I honestly think that the stronger 7000 series aluminum was a band aid. It def made it stronger but they should've also reinforced the inside of the phone. Aluminum is just too soft of a metal for such a design.
Don't get me wrong, I love the design of the 6 & 6s. They're a damn work of art. It just stinks that we all pay a premium to have such issues arise

Seems like it has been quite good since even in forums like this one there hasn't been much, if almost any, complaining.

It's the Otterbox cases. I felt like I was bending my phone during installation and removal on my 6s+ because I had to use a lot of force. It seems like mine us bent slightly but not as bad as yours.

The more I think about it, I think it is the case. That's the only force that I can think of that MIGHT have caused it. I'm using an Otterbox Commuter. Back to the market for another case I guess. Even if this IS the problem, the iPhone should not bend from putting a case on or off. Craziness

Wow, OP that's aweful and I didn't think the Otterbox commuter case could do that. My kids and I were using that case - I'll have to rethink what cases we use.

I agree with the sentiment about making phones too thin.

My husband's Otterbox for his 5 was a commuter. Mine was a defender. When my iPhone 6 broke down and I was waiting for a replacement, I used my 5 for a while and used his commuter on my 5. The way those cases are, I think one could bend an iPhone 6 while using it, whereas with the defender series, that wouldn't happen. With the defender case, the phone goes inside 2 hard pieces which click together and then the entire unit goes inside the rubber bumper. The entire unit is not as sleek as the commuter case, but there's really minimal risk of bending the phone.
The case I'm using for my 6 is not an Otterbox, it's a clear unit I purchased at an Apple store.

My dad's 6 was bent, I took it and held it up sideways when they asked why I was in the store today... Immediately they said "wow okay we'll get you a new one" I have no apple care it was just a few months into the warranty. Within 10 minutes I was in and out.

6 (and more along the lines of the Plus version) can be slightly more prone to it compared to the 6s given that the aluminum that its made out of is somewhat softer essentially.

I know, just odd they would swap a 6 without a problem but argue to no end for a 6s... Although it makes sense because I had to argue to get 2 charging cables swapped one for me and one for my cousin because he wasn't there with me.

Well, a different representative and/or a different store and/or at different time it might not have been as simple as that be it a 6 or 6s. Quite a few variables that these stories certainly have a good amount of variety to them from person to person, place to place, and time to time.

If a phone bends pulling it out of the case, otterbox or whatever, using your hand and not a pry bar or something then there's something wrong with the aluminum or it's just too thin. That means the plastic case is stronger than the aluminum.
