iPad Pro Bent iPad - Do I have anything to worry about?

Hi,

Would really appreciate some feedback and thoughts here.

Yesterday, I purchased a second hand iPad Pro 11". I looked at it before buying, the condition looked immaculate - no scratches, no nothing.

I brought it home, and after a few hours, I noticed there was a slight bend about half way down the left hand side (if looking at the iPad in portrait), where there's a tiny hole (not sure what this is used for - mic I'm guessing?).

The bend is noticeable if I look at it side on, but can't notice it if I'm using the iPad front on, and there's nothing wrong with the screen at all.

Is this something I should be concerned about? Will it affect the durability in the future? Is the screen likely to crack?

Also got one second hand because it saved me about £500 off RRP, and other than the slight bend it’s in immaculate condition

Just be warned, they bend super easly. check out youtube to see how easy it is to bend it. but if you put it in a decent case and baby it, it should be fine!

Rubbish, have had mine for over a year and its the same, straight, has been on flights, cars, in bags, in a apple folio at home and a cheap esr case when travelling.

I think it may have bent out of the box, and neither me or the seller was aware before I bought it - they had always kept it in a case

Or, I bent it when I removed it from it's case, which obviously shouldn't happen.

probably, changing cases won’t bend it. We have a 2 year warranty here if it’s bent and no other damage wouldn’t be hard to get it replaced.

Having said that, the bend doesn’t affect functionality in any way. It’s pretty much your choice if you want to obsess about it 🙂

I did see that. I was more wondering about what people thought about Apple’s statement and the truth behind it. Thanks for the heads up though - new case, Bluetooth mouse & keyboard have just arrived. Love it!

Yeah, mines a cellular model - annoying seeing as I won't even use the cellular function I doubt.

One of those things where try not to let it bother you and enjoy the function of the device unless it really noticeable. It’s easy to obsess about it

I wouldn’t worry about it. My iPad Pro 10.5 bent around the smart connector when it was about 6 months old. It still works now and it’s 2.5 years old. It doesn’t effect the function. 99% of the time I have it connected to the Smart Keyboard so I never see it. I had apple care plus but I never bothered to get it replaced. I could have ended up with a worse unit, maybe with the white spot issue so I kept it. It doesn’t effect the function at all.

My worry would be if anything were to go wrong that required warranty repair with no AC coverage, Apple could potentially refuse repair citing accidental damage due to a bend. Unlikely I guess but entirely possible.

It’s def possible, a friend of mine, was refused screen replacement by Apple due to her iPhone 6 being bend

For people saying it won't bend easy, have you forgotten the iPhone 6? I had one bend while in an OtterBox case. I'm getting my new iPP tomorrow and I intend to treat it like I would an irreplaceable item of value.

It would be really hard to visually see a 400 micron difference. It's likely bent by more than what Apple is saying is acceptable.

Has he provided evidence, mathematically, of exactly how much torque is required to bend an iPad Pro? I don't know if anyone has. You apply enough pressure to anything, it'll bend. The question is whether or not that amount is reasonable given normal expected usage.

Not gonna happen in normal use, sit on it or stuff in a bag that gets abused yeah, iv'e taken mine on 3 x OS trips and numerous work trips just in a stm shoulder bag and it's same as i got it 14 months ago.
