Hello,

I am looking for a monitor minimum 27’ to plug in and power my MB Pro 13’ 2018.

The main usage will be for work but here are other usages :
- Browsing internet
- Video and photo editing
- Movies
- Very little gaming

After reading few articles and according to my budget, I am leaning towards the lg 27uk850. The only thing is the usb-a port is 2.0 speed. Not necessarily a big deal since my external HD will probably be plugged directly to my laptop when needed.

Besides in the future, I will probably purchase a keyboard and mouse. I am not really sure what is the best setup : plug them to the monitor, to the laptop through a dock...

Thanks in advance for your help !

An LG 27UK850 seems like a good choice. I don't think you can get any USB-C monitor that has faster USB ports for peripherals.

The only keyboards I've used with my MBP's are the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Matias Wireless Aluminum Keyboard.

I've been using an LG UltraFine 4K monitor with my MBP 13" 2016 but I've noticed that I'm hunching over to get a bit closer to the screen quite often. I've since replaced it with an ultrawide with thunderbolt 3.

27UK850 ordered. That's sad the ultra fine 5K are still not affordable for me...
nice choice! I think 5k is overkill for people like you and me, Im happy with my 4K LG tv.

and 27UK850 is a true 10bit panel, which is good for media consuming.

If that might help, here is my 2 cents on the monitor.

Good:
-The design is nice and simple
-No big edges on the sides left right and up
-It's so convenient to charge and connect your laptop with only one cable (cable included)
-USB hub is useful. For example the connector for Logitech mouse is plugged in and works fine
-Size is huge compared to 13". Probably because I am used to 13" since few years ;)

Less:
-No True Tone available
-Monitor Speaker is useless, better to use speakers from your Macbook
-I can see there is a difference in terms of quality image between the monitor and my Macbook Pro screen.

I am overall happy with my purchase, good value.

For any 28UK850's owners, would you mind sharing your setting monitor (brightness, contrast) ?
I will try the settings indicated in this article : https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/lg-27uk850-gaming-monitor,5708-2.html

Thanks !

I also have one on the way. I have a 2016 MacBook Pro 15 and a 2014 iMac 5k. Hoping to just be able to use the MacBook Pro and sell the iMac.

Is there a big difference in quality from the MacBook screen to the monitor? I am worried now it will be a big step down from my iMac

I think they look great but I haven't seen many monitors that look better than the MBP displays. I think it's just due to Apple's calibration and the smaller 12-15" size. It's nothing drastic though and you should be happy!

I find blacks from my MBP display darker than from my 27UK850, but I am not really an expert ;)
To be honest I think there will be always a difference with the MBP Display since this monitor is 4K and not 5K

That's because you are probably connecting it via HDMI. In Windows, I could set the black levels to full in NVidia panel. On macOS, I remember using some hack/script in Sierra. I don't know how compatible it is with HS and Mojave.

Another way to solve it is probably to use something like DisplayPort instead of HDMI.

Well mine has arrived. The screen has a lot of bleed/ips glow which is a shame. Only really noticeable on dark backgrounds. Going to see if it bothers me in actual use.

I am running at at more space (equivalent to 2560x1440 and it looks almost as crisp as the iMac. I am pretty pleased with the colours and clarity. I have been running Xcode and visual studio on it from my 2016 15” MacBook and performance is good.

I have this monitor as well. The only thing I don't like about it is the stand. The legs/feet stick out too far for me and get in the way of mouse/keyboard.

I replaced it with a monitor arm mounted to the back of my desk and I'm much happier.

Using it on both my 2016 15" MacBook Pro and my new Surface Book 2.

Little late to the party. Thought I should chip in anyways.

I bought a 27UK850 3 days ago. @Salazes123 Thanks for sharing the Calibration guide. Though I have a question regarding that. I tend to change brightness throughout the day (lowest at night)

Screen Shot 2019-03-04 at 12.11.39 PM.png

Does this chart mean, even if I change the brightness across 3 to 50, other settings (contrast, gamma & colorTemp) remain constant ?

My unit also have IPS glow which I feel at this point is common to everybody, noticeable only at certain angles & only at dark. The speaker is trash. With EqMac I did improve the sould a little bit but it was also changing my macbook & airpod's sound which seemed like a complication. About changing the brightness/sound from macbook - I've tried LUNA but the automatic change of brightness just like on macbook felt like flickering. Settled with MonitorControl for now which controls both sound & brightness from expanded touch bar controls when it works, which is 50% of the time.

I'd like to know how experts have been using this. To be honest, it clearly feels like a downgrade from retina screen & slightly disappointed considering this costs 45K INR. If you guys have any pro tip, throw them at me.
