Best 3D card for 2008 MacPro?

I have a 2008 2 x 2.8GHz Quad-Core MacPro with the ATI Radeon 2600.

I'm looking to upgrade to something more powerful for AfterEffects 3D and Photoshop 3D work.

Any thoughts?

Mountain Lion will let you use a GTX570, Snow Leopard will limit you to a Radeon HD5870.
Both will hand your current card its arse.

You can also run a GTX 570 in Lion (10.7) with NVIDIA's web drivers.

6870 in lion or mountain lion is not the strongest, but its the best power per price point. i run one in my computer, which is the same year/cpu model as yours.
