Best 4K monitor for MP 5,1?

I've spent a great deal of time researching monitors and have narrowed it down somewhat, although it seems today's 4k monitors all have issues. The technology simply is not very good.

RIght now, I am deliberating between the Dell UP3219Q, the HP DreamColor Z32, and the LG 32UD99.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Attached is one review of the top monitors. Take it with a grain of salt. 8.0 seems to be the highest rating.

Issues with the three I have picked:

Dell UP3219Q: backlight bleeding, washout in low-light conditions
HP DreamColor Z32: hardly any reviews on it, but it seems to be exactly the same as the Dell.
LG 32UD99: bad angled visuals, wobbly stand, poor quality control

I would go for the Dell U3219Q, because it has HDR 10 and DisplayHDR400.

The average response time should not be more than 12 ms for moving pictures (- LG). And the HP DreamColor has a glossy screen.

I join the discussion, I'm also looking for a 4k monitor for the mac pro.
The choice, as well as the budget, depends on what kind of use you want to do. Are you a photographer or a videomaker, for example?

I've ordered and waiting for my HP Z27. Went with this instead of the Dell.

I would not touch a Dell monitor as they have no repair offering outside warranty. This is based upon experience with P2815, P2715 and U3214. From that list I’d go LG as the only dedicated screen manufacturer there. Currently very happy using 3x Benq BL3201PT on my MP.

The choice, as well as the budget, depends on what kind of use you want to do. Are you a photographer or a videomaker, for example?

I do some photo editing but work mostly with text. Crisp, clean text, like that of the Retina displays, is more what I am after.

The think I like about the Dells and the HPs is their tank-like stands and the better ergonomics (LG actually makes Dell and HP displays). But I am open to getting an LG. Maybe I'll check out that Benq of yours. Outside of the three-year Dell warranty they don't do repairs even if you pay? What about LG?

When a monitor is in the $400 to $500 range, out-of-warranty repairs aren't that significant for most. One is better off buying a new monitor than have an old one out-of-service for a week or more for a repair.

Your opinion may vary, but only hobbyists would worry about repairing an old monitor. People making money from systems worry about downtime more that repairing old stuff.

(And I've bought Dell P2715Q 27" 4K monitors by the pallets - and I've had one DOA and one that died within two weeks. The rest have been running for years.)

A decent 32” 4K is not a $400 monitor. Also no standard stand provides decent ergonomics. 3rd party VESA all the way to get some decent height.

I really like that B&H ships free to Canada. And their prices tend to be better than Best Buy Canada and Memory Express. Still can't decide which monitor to get. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info out there for Mac Pro users. I am also uneasy about resolution. Will I have to set it to 1440p most of the time in order to avoid the miniature visuals. Sigh.

The nice thing about the 27 inchers is that they tend to have higher ppi than the 32s...say, around 160 ppi, which is a little more than the 140 ppi common in the 32s. I am also considering them.

I went ahead and got the LG 32UD99 HDR 4K monitor. Had it for a couple of weeks now. Running it scaled to 1440p. Liking it so far. Has the look of the retina displays for sure.

+1 for Dell P2715Q 27" 4K monitor. Been using one with my 4,1->5,1 for over a year and very pleased. Good bang for the buck.

Dell UP3219Q is really bad with edge bleed while fully blacked out. I do photo retouching and it was unusable because of that. As much as I wanted to like it that REALLY disappointed me. I ended up getting a NEC non 4k and it's beautiful.
