I am looking to upgrade my print to one which has AirPrint capabilities. I am hoping to evoke a health debate from which I can make a final decision. I appreciate the help. My specific needs are: excellent black and white manuscript printing, the occasional photo printing, and high quality scanner (preferably with multi sheet scanning capabilities). Must be compatible with my time capsule (2011 version) and have the AirPrint capabilities. Once, again I appreciate the help!

I just bought an HP LaserJet CP1525nw. I miss the duplex on my old one but wanted the wireless and AirPrint. It was nice to be able to print a PDF from my phone last night.
+1 for the HP Envy. It works flawlessly, it's extremely small compared to other printers of the type, and honestly it's just super freaking cool the way it moves on its own and stuff. The display is extremely high quality, reminds me of the iPhone's retina display, and HP's ePrint service is super cool and handy. And you can get the printer for real cheap on Amazon!
Another vote for the HP Envy!!! I picked up this printer last week and it has been flawless. I love the Airprint feature but the best feature is the HP eprint. I love where I can just e-mail the printer since it has an e-mail address. It also just looks cool!! I know that Best Buy and Staples has this printer for 199.00.

You can use any printer if you download and install Printopia on your Mac (if you have one). AirPrint Activator is another one but it doesnt work with the latest update to OSX Lion.
But the great thing about AirPrint printers like the envy is that you just plug it in, get it on wifi and thats it. Mine is in the living room under the TV. I can print from my iPhone, iPad, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, Macbook Air, Google TV or even my PS3. Its pretty versatile!
I love Canons myself, just got a new MG6220 that I am using for my ipad and my wife's MBP. I had to mess around to get around my security settings for the wi fi but once I had it figured out it worked beautifully. I have had great success with Canons, still running an MP830 from 4-5 years ago.
Getting it on wifi is a PiTA with some wifi printers. Also, with one of the helper apps I mentioned, you just run the app once and that's it. And you can use any printer instead of just a HP.
Maybe with other printers, but with the HP Envy 100 it was literally as easy as plugging it in, it asks for which router is yours, type in the password and hit print on your iPhone.
+1 on the HP Envy! Great quality printer and scanner as well as being able to connect to HP's ePrint service so I can print and get a scan from anywhere in the world with the HP ePrint App.
What if you are doing something like mac filtering? This is the issue I had to get around to get the canon set up. I could not find a mac address, and didn't look at the settings which is where it was listed, not that any manuals these days tell you anything. I guess if you have weak security you can hook anything up to wi fi. I prefer to lock it down as much as I can...
My printer shows up on my router and the SD slot even shows up in finder. I have a firewall and a good password...what kind of security do you need? Are you keeping top secret high level clearance data on your printer that you are afraid people are going to need to hack into?
I can port forward for needed apps and others are blocked. Pretty simple.
You are claiming that the Canon was difficult to set up due to MAC filtering on your own network? Seriously? Ever think of turning Mf off for like ~20 seconds and find the MAC in the DHCP table? For someone "with a secure network", you do not seem to have a very firm grasp on what you are doing.
I looked at the Envy but it was so expensive! We got a newer HP Photosmart about a year ago and it's worked flawlessly since hooking it up. Cost about $70 and installed without problem, even switched from Charter internet to U-Verse and had no troubles whatsoever. Plugged it in, turned it on, and all I had to do was enter the security key for the router and we were up and running in minutes. I LOVE being able to print PDFs, coupons that come via mail, etc. from my phone. It's great!
I recently updated my printer just for AirPrint compatibility. I used to have my printer hacked to work, but when iOS 5 broke it i decided I should probably go the official route. I've been relying on my iPad more and more lately. I really needed an ADF. That was a must. I found it hard to find on AirPrint printers. I finally got the Epson Workforce 845. I was briefly unsure about it because some sources say it's AirPrint, others don't. Turns out a brief firmware update adds AirPrint. Loving it!
The HP Wi-Fi printers are very easy to setup and work really well.
I bought the same printer not too long ago for £69.97 from Amazon and I'm really happy with it. It was a breeze to setup and works flawlessly with my iPad 2, iPhone 4S and Mac Mini all wirelessly.
Regards the Envy the one drawback is that it uses a combined colour cartridge as opposed to separate ones. The one I bought has five separate cartridges - black, cyan, magenta, yellow and photo black. As a result the ink costs are a lot lower. It also does duplex printing which I'm not sure if the Envy does.
