Best alternative to iPhone 6

Hello! I recently posted in the iPhone forum as I got an iPhone 6 Plus on launch day, but have decided in the last week to sell it - the novelty has worn off and the size is just doing my head in now!

I was going to just order a regular 6 instead, but for the first time in a long long time, I got the urge to look at alternatives.

So, what are the best other options? As mentioned, I can't get on with the 6+ because of it's size, so nothing that sort of size.

Best alternative to iPhone 6

Galaxy Alpha.

Very fast, very speedy phone and premium build quality. Even touchwiz on the alpha doesn't hamper it.

I've been very impressed with mine, and for me the best Android phone I've bought this year out of the half dozen or so that I've gone through.

The screen resolution and pixel count (ppi) is very close to the iPhone 6 - despite it not having a 1080p screen like the S5 or M8, the benefit it has on performance more than makes up for 1280p resolution instead.

After that the M8 is a great phone with again great apple like build quality - however the camera if important to you is the weak link in its armour.

Well, there goes 3 of the top phone alternatives I had in mind relative to the 6+. I do recommend the Moto X on sale tomorrow for either $359 or $409 tomorrow around noon on their site. It's either 16 GB or 32 GB. The Nexus 5 also is $350 or $400 for the same memory capacities as well. The HTC One M8 is dropping in price on eBay for refurbs and brand new. The Xperia Z3 is not bad either. The Droid Turbo is the best Verizon phone out right now.

These devices I listed are relatively great with build quality while maintaining minimalistic UIs to match what you experienced on the iPhone 6 with respect to opening up apps and having processing power. Can't go wrong with any that I listed.

If under 5 inch screen is the criteria. I second the nod for the Alpha and would add the Xperia Z3 Compact.

2013 or 14 ? I found the 2014 edition to be too big - especially if wanting a device with decent size screen but small footprint. Especially if you ever held the 2013 edition - the 2014 feels monstrous in size by comparison and lacks the near perfect ergonomics they struck with the original.

I was thinking about the Galaxy S5 Mini for the same form factor reasons. I miss the size of the 5S. I also thought I could get used to the bigger sizes but even just on the iPhone 6, I find it very uncomfortable to use. The last phone I had before switching to iPhones was Blackberry! haha.

But I did play around with a friends S4 Mini and I quite liked it. He has a new phone so he basically just gave it to me and let me customize, etc etc as I wanted. I totally get the love of widgets now.

Be careful with the minis, the specs are usually way under that of the full size

I've just bought a Z3C, going from a 5S and I really like it. It feels like a much more superior product than my 5S, the camera is excellent, it's certainly quicker than my 5S and there are quite a few little things that it just does much better than the Iphone e.g voice recognition, much more accurate than Siri. The things I don't like on it - battery seems poor, the walkman music player is just crap, they claim it's waterproof, but considering you have these 3 plasticky tabs that easily pop out, I wouldn't be taking this underwater. Other than that, it's a great phone.

as others have said, the z3c and the moto x are two great "smaller" alternatives. Both phones have a pure android feel to them. Personally I trust motorola more than sony. Sony is really hurting in the phone arena, and you can never really know how long the phone will be supported.

Yeah I've tinkered with a few settings, dropped the brightness and turned off bluetooth etc & it seems to be doing better. Re waterproof - IMHO - those tabs are not secure enough to take a $600 device underwater. The only part of the phone that I'd regard as poor design.

There an huge difference between iOS and Android
Android apps may need alot and authorizations and sometime they run in the background
sending data through wifi or mobile data...
Stamina mode isnt a magic mode but at least it could help you when screen is off
In case if you still meeting battery life issue, i suggest you to two great apps
Greenify, a notorious app, unlike iOS which you can kill apps, you must not kill apps on Android in order to get RAM, its unnecessary
Instead of killing apps and services, Greenify actually ''hibernate'' those apps until you open it again

GSAM Monitor Manager is also a great app to show global figures about battery life, it may help you to detect any suspect drain from apps, connection...

If you happen to use Greenify, link it with a gesture shortcut with Nova Launcher Prime or All In One Gestures. I use the latter app with a double tap status bar (left area) to hibernate my apps. Your RAM avail will increase. There is auto-hibernation which hibernates apps when screen goes off but you need your device rooted. Manually hibernate is good enough though because if you enable auto-hibernation, you won't always get your notifications. This is important esp if you hibernate messaging apps like WhatsApp or Viber. I hibernate the latter because it eats up RAM and wakelocks.

GSAM Battery Monitor is excellent but getting a more accurate Screen On Time (SOT) is with WakeLock Detector, Du Battery Saver, or battery usage in the Settings app. All three apps are good but I don't use them anymore. I don't get wakelocks anyway as Greenify prevents it and my phone usually goes to deep sleep. And I use a swipe up the Settings icon shortcut to get to my battery usage to check my SOT. I never have my battery % in the status bar. I get paranoid and will watch it like a hawk. I keep it hidden in my notification panel using the Notification Toggle app. More accurate battery % than GSAM and Du Battery Saver.

Since KK has been deployed, a ton of these helpful apps miss a lack of functions unless you r rooted but it aint that user friendly

I'd actually just get an iPhone 6 tbh, it's a great phone and if you're used to iOS...

Otherwise the Galaxy Alpha is nice, or you could check out the S6.

In all seriousness though, I also think the Galaxy Alpha is worth some consideration, because it is very similar to the iPhone 6 in terms of size.
