Pages is nearly perfect for me. I’m not sure if it’s the document I’m working with or what’s causing the problems. I have 4 columns. And I copy/paste orders from emails into it, then I need to do some minor edits to make them a bit easier to read, then print for the warehouse.

The problem is Pages gets very slow to work with after a couple of these orders are pasted in. The app doesn’t crash, it’s just painfully slow.

So, I’ve tried MS Word. I opened the same file into it, seems to work fine. I get the orders in and I don’t have any slow down problems. The problem here is I can’t easily paste with formatting. I can use previous format after pasting, which is fine. But Word completely screws that up anyway. One of those pasted orders might have two completely different fonts and sizes, for example.

Google Docs is another option I have not tried yet, but after completely deleting all of my Google accounts and everything with Google, I’d rather not use it.

Are there any other free alternatives to Pages and MS Word I can try for iOS? I should note this problem doesn’t happen on the Mac version of Pages, but I’m trying to go iPhone only and this is really the only roadblock I’m running into.

Thanks for the suggestions! WPS and Polaris look like what I might be looking for and have pretty good reviews. I’ll try out all three, hopefully one of them works for me.

first: what iPhone model? which version of iOS?

Further related:If you generate some text (e.g. with this, let#s say 100 words in 15 sentences with 5 paragraphs) and paste that in, when does Pages become slow? Are you copying from plain or HTML emails (or other formats e.g. PDF)? You are copying from which email client into Pages?

Just out of curiosity: does the problem persists when you use the online version of Pages?

iPhone 14 Pro. It’s been happening for years, multiple bug reports to Apple. Still happening on current iOS 18 beta.

It’s plain text from the email. Copying from the default email client into Pages.

The problem doesn't happen on the Mac version of Pages, and it doesn’t happen on the web version (tried on Mac and Windows).

Pages itself doesn’t get slower, I can still scroll smoothly. It’s just the text field, I usually have to use the arrow keys to move up/down quite a bit, hit return to separate things, or delete to combine items together. At some point for example, I can hit return 10 times very quickly, and it’ll lag a bit before these paragraphs actually happen on screen.

Edit: A little more information. Seems like the slow down really only happens in the screen view, instead of showing the whole page at once.
