HI there. I know various apps have been thrown around like IExplorer.

But my phone has been jailbroken countless times since iOS2 really and I want to do a CLEAN restore, but port over some app data and text data and so forth.

I cannot find a consensus on the best APP to do this. I assume I'll have to pay, but basically making a custom restore from backup after a clean restore.

Thanks!

What device and iOS? There are alternate (and better in my opinion) methods but it will depend on the device and firmware.

LR has worked flawlessly and effortlessly for me. I am curious what is better?

Please share!

It's nothing crazy nor is it a one app solution. BUT if the OP has a device which he/she can restore and jailbreak freely, then the best solution would be to backup the text messages and then use AppBackup to backup all his App Store apps so he can reinstall them afterwards and restore them to their "identical" state. Plus OP can use pkgbackup to save his jailbreak packages (although I dont think this is as necessary).

After backing up everything, OP would restore as new. Then jailbreak, setup iCloud, install all his App Store apps, install AppBackup from Cydia and restore the App Store apps, then install all the Cydia packages one by one to avoid any conflicts or issues. Finally setup his tweaks and enjoy!

FYI, this is what I do every time I restore and jailbreak (minus the saving of texts). I use AppBackup to save all my game saves and various app settings. Then restore as new, JB, setup iCloud, install apps, restore apps using AppBackup, then install Cydia packages one by one! My phone is always solid along with battery life. I rarely have issues and when I do its usually caused by a faulty tweak.

I hope this helps.

Hi Guys. Thanks for the responses. Will look at iLEX Rat etc.

I have an iPhone 5 on 6.1.4. To be honest, I've been JBing from Day 1 and restoring from backup and basically something somewhere in the software is causing my phone to go caput (aka constant use). So I want to cleanse all random JB stuff thats bee on my phone -- Restore as new iPhone then port over very select few things... (Texts, Voicemails, *some* app data) thats basically it. Ive used pkgbackup before and am just gonna try and go about this in a non-JB way. What do you think?

Thanks!

This is going to work. I'm already on a non-JB version of IOS.... 6.1.4.

Any downloadable MAC apps? like IExplorer or Phoneview...? Those two both won't do what I want.

Thanks

I don't think you can do anything meaningful with iFunBox or iexorer because you are not jailbroken. Honestly, your best bet is to sync your device and backup stuff with iCloud, them restore as new. Once done, resync all your stuff using the individual options in iTunes.

Edit: I think there was a decent tool at some point specifically designed to backup texts. I'm not sure what its called but I've seen it mentioned here in MR. It's worth looking into. Ill see if I can dig it up.

what? you are telling me you are running backups from all the way from iOS2 and dif, iPhones? No wonder your iPhones would be sluggish.

Each new iOS version works best w/ a full restore. I recommend you do a full restore as NEW and don't use backups, use iCloud for most things and lose your txts from 2008 I don't think you need them that much. If you do then just take screenshots of them, do a photostream folder for them and store them there for whenever you want to see them again.
