Hi Folks, what's your top two apps for the MacBook.
Just got a MacBook 12 earlier this week and need to fill it up

Spotify is good

Does anyone have any other good apps they use

Double ditto's on "depends upon your needs". Filling up your MB with "stuff" just to fill it up doesn't make sense. I shoot photos and video so my main app's are Lightroom, Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5.

Absolutely.

Think about what you want to achieve with your Mac. You bought it for a reason, right? Maybe for web design, maybe video editing, recording the next number one single or maybe just browsing the web and sending the occasional email...

Keeping the reason(s) you bought your Mac in mind, look at what the Mac has installed already, for free. If it does everything you want it to well enough to satisfy you then stop right there. No point filling up your hard drive with clutter.

If, however, you find you're missing the ability to do something then do some research and see what software is available. As a tight fisted Yorkshireman, I always start with the free stuff first... ;-)

That said, I flit between being an graphic designer and a programmer. When I'm in programming mode I use:

  • Xcode
  • Sequel Pro
  • Script Debugger
  • PaintCode
  • TextWrangler

When I'm in graphic design mode, I use:

  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe InDesign
  • OpenOffice

You are absolutely right. I mostly want to use it for photo editing and the odd game play.
Away to have a look at some of your suggestions

top two apps:cool:
I'm running a Mac mini.
Skitch - I use it to capture screenshot and edit the image.
Caffeine - A very small app to prevent your monitor to sleep or screensaver.

Just two apps ... that's tough :)

Spotify and Evernote gets me through the day but the one I use the most is Divvy with which I can allocate apps to certain areas of my desktop. I use it all the time and simply cannot live without it!

I need to add two : Fantastical 2 is very nice and Tomahawk music player let me play FLAC and do much more with streaming music because I like lossless in FLAC :)

EDIT I use moom instead of Divvy work well so far for me ;) and its cool just in menu bar

Really depends. Mine is Cyclonis Password Manager and Skype. Got to have a password manager, it's so convenient; Skype is necessary, though there're so many chat apps out there, still my favorite. Best of all, they are both free!

It really depends.
For work, I need to use outlook 2016 whenever my computer is on.
I use cogplayer a lot to listen to APE music. Personally, I prefer APE to MP3.

In no particular order (this is what I use):

Microsoft Office 2016
Fantastical 2
Dropbox
Affinity Photo / Designer
Todoist
Evernote
Alfred 3
CleanMyMac 3
Magnet
Adobe Acrobat Reader
iStat Manus
Bartender 3
Parallels Desktop
BetterTouchTool
PDFelement 6 Pro
1Password
CopyClip
Countdown
Deliveries
Commander One
Yoink
Pcalc
DaisyDisk
Mirror for LG TV
Pocket
Skype
WhatsApp
The Unarchiver
Teamviewer
VLC
FortiClient VPN
Amphetamine
...

AppCleaner
1Password (but may be looking for a new PW manager as they are pushing subscriptions)
Firefox, then Chrome
ChronoSync (or other backup utility)
MoneyDance for checkbook register and financial tracking
Unarchiver
Pacifist (opens ZIP files and other compressed files, not just extracts...)

There are others. Being a developer type, I use MAMP Pro, Sequel Pro, etc.

If you use USB drives, I highly recommend Jettison. It will try and eject USB drives before shutting down or going to sleep. Has saved my bacon a time or two.

AppCleaner
1Password (but may be looking for a new PW manager as they are pushing subscriptions)
They may be pushing it, but 1Password 7 for Windows will support local vaults when it comes out. It’s currently in beta. So they plan to have both.
