Best Brand Name Surge Protector

Please let me know what you think .. I am looking to buy a surge protector for my new iMac and want to get the best within reason.

I searched on-line and found information which was informative but not at all helpful when it can to naming names and choosing .. I bought a Belkin BE108200-06 Eight Outlet with Phone Protection for now as it was cheap and well rated .. I find the layout is back to front for me so I am more than happy to change .. My last one was a Monster brand PC300TL with a great layout but it is outdated now .. Thank you all in advance

If you really want to keep your iMac safe go with a UPS to protect from too little or to much power hitting it.

I suppose APCs aren't the cheapest option but they are what you'll find in IT departments around the country.

The "Belkin BE108200-06" appears to be rated to 3,390 joules of protection. A good device will help deliver "cleaner" power at the outlet. For me, I don't buy "wall outlet" Surge Protection under 3,000 Joules Protection. For electrical outages with automatic shut-down control feature, do consider using a Backup UPS device as well. I have an APC 1300VA LCD unit (http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1300LCD - bought for 1/2 price at my local Future Shop store) connected to my wife's new iMac (and its wall outlet) and it works great. Already survived 1 power outage. Without a backup battery device, our iMac would have been forced into an immediate improper shut-down and some of its files could have been scrambled. With backup UPS (with connected USB "control" cable), our iMac waited for 5 minutes and after that time, it did an auto shut down. When our local power came back on, I simply physically turned the iMac back on, and it worked great. To me, "whole house" Surge Proteciton and device Backup UPS units are more important then simple "wall outlet" Surge Supression units. If you own your own home, do investigate whole house surge protection. Glad I installed it within my home.
