I won't be able to pre-order until Thursday. I was wondering if I would be able to pick up my phone on the 24th? Someone posted earlier that if you pre-order too late you might not be given a phone on the 24th. I thought that is what preordering was to be given a phone before the people in line are given theirs. Thanks for any info in advance.:)

I would pre-order as early as possible tomorrow in order to get a phone on the 24th. I imagine at some point they will exhaust their pre-order supply and stop taking orders.

Didn't see this exact question yet:

Can I pre-order on apple.com and set it for in-store pick up? Will I be guaranteed it's waiting for me if I can't get there until the evening?

retention "threat to cancel"

what are the chances if I threat to cancel and go else where they will let me go ahead and upgrade to the at the 199 price?

has anyone tried this?

I'm sure we're all curious to know - please call now and report back!!!

AT&T states you can't pick up your pre-order until the 25th or after. According to the store down by my house that I called, they verified that is not correct. I can come in at 7AM and get it.

Not sure what I want to do at this point. I don't mind having it shipped from Apple but it seems every time something important comes, the drivers are late, reschedule or leave me a damn door tag even though I am here. It's never an issue when I really don't WANT the package. Lol.

Go for it.

However, I believe AT&T implemented the Early Termination Fee to accommodate people like you.

you should try it sometime, I once called Direct TV (in contract) told them i was going to cancel I got 5 months free service and new HD receivers
Verizon would let me upgrade to any phone I wanted at nearly anytime. this usually extended my contract but I didnt mind.

I need a place for midnight launch ofnthe iPhone to pick it up. Flying out of town early on the 25th and would love to take the new phone with me.

With the iPhone already out, there is just going to be crappy news like this all summer.

If the only Apple news that excites you is iPhone news then yes. You are probably right. However there's plenty of Apple news -- both hardware and software -- to look forward to just a few months away.

I believe the answer to both of those questions is a resounding yes. Contact the Apple store you plan to pick up from and see if they can offer a definite answer.

Just remembered...

I tried this last year with the 3GS launch cause of issues I had with no one being able to upgrade on my family plan...if you read my earlier post on page 1 you'll see what I'm talking about...AT&T fed me some line of BS saying that they had no authority to change the policy on upgrades with regards to the iPhone because it's an Apple product. Well, if I'm wrong, correct me, but doesn't AT&T set the upgrade price because they're taking the hit in exchange for you signing the new 2 year contract? It is worth another shot I think...as much as they'd love to get the $325 cancellation fee...they want our $100 a month more.

If you want to pick up a phone at an ATT store on the 24th you are going to have to wait in line for first come first serve. All preorders for in store pick up will be ready on the 25th.

I just called. The website is wrong. They told me 24th.. same as always. Preorders go first in line when the store opens.

so if you pre-order with apple to have it shipped to your house, you are guaranteed to have it by the 24th? And we have no idea what time pre-orders start? Also, they will be able to tell the price you are eligible for when you pre-order? Thanks!

No, there's no absolute guarantee since once it ships it could get lost by the carrier or get misrouted, but having said that, I got my 3GS and iPad on launch day with no problem. The chances of your getting it late are very low, but it could happen.

If I recall correctly, you reserve a device by purchasing a 50$ BB gift card (and giving them your name, account info, etc of course). On launch day when you come pick up the device, you use that 50$ BB gift card towards the purchase price of the device. If you choose not to get the device, BB has essentially sold you a 50$ gift card, so it works out well for them.

That's funny, because it totally sounds like Best Buy, to try to get something out of a customer without even completing a sale (assuming you have to back out of a pre-order for any reason). Do they let you return gift cards?

Holy Used Car Salesman. BB is really reaching into the sleaze sales bag for this one. From their press release:

"Consumers who purchase the iPhone 4 at Best Buy can avoid dealing with mail-in rebates"

I’ve come full circle on this.

Long story short, I’m eligible to swap out the 3GS I bought to replace a stolen phone on May 8th with the new model as long as I go back to the ATT Store and preorder between June 15-21.

I’m leaving town around 8:30 on the 24th. So I actually read through this post and started wondering if I’d have time to get the new phone at 7:00 before we hit the road. Or would it arrive at the store on the 25th? Or could I arrange to have it delivered at an AT&T store in the town we were going to on the 24th so it would be waiting.

Then I realized it’s a phone. And somehow my life would not be significantly altered if I got back in town a few days later.

The store might want to read the official ATT launch manual. It clearly state one line for all customers. See: Crowd Management.

Now maybe the manager of the store you are going to intends to blow off the official ATT plan, but I suspect if his supervisor does a spot check and sees that it won't be a manager for the whole day. Just saying, I'd go by what the book says over a store clerk.

The best scenario for this is that if you're a long term customer, or fit some other type of criteria, you might be eligible for some type of loyalty credit to offset some of the difference. Again, it's not in any way a sure thing but might be worth a shot.

But getting them to switch you from being non-eligible for standard pricing to eligible won't happen no matter how you threaten to leave. People leave all the time, they're not gonna 'save' you like DirecTV or Comcast or other companies might.

0%.

If you threaten to leave they will tell you they are sorry to see you go and then say buh bye.

If you are not eligible then you either just got your iPhone, in which case ATT has not made it's money back on it's subsidy, or you have a low income producing plan. If you spend more than $99 per month you get to upgrade annually. If you spend less it's 18 months, except for this one off where it's bumping up customers eligible this year.
