Do Best Buy authorized repair centers do on the spot replacement phones for hardware defects?

Apple Support had me set up an appointment with Best Buy as I didn’t want to mail my phone in and be without a phone.

Guessing I’ll probably end up getting a refurb unit, which is a bit upsetting as my iPhone 13 is less than 3 weeks old. Worked great, updated to iOS 15.5 and now it says “Face ID is not available”.

So weird that this would be a hardware issue when it broke the morning it said 15.5 was installed. I’m half tempted to try to install the 15.6 beta just out of curiosity of whether it would fix it, but I don’t want them to think the phone isn’t working cause it’s on beta software.

Do you have Applecare? If so, you might request express replacement. They send you a phone and then you send the defective one back after you get the replacement.

I do not, but I was still within the window to sign up for it. Honestly, all my iPhones seem to break of mysterious hardware failures within the free warranty or at around 3 years when I wouldn’t likely have AppleCare anymore. Apple has done a good job making AppleCare seem indispensable but I’ve not had issues with Apple replacing phones with obvious hardware faults.

I suppose if Best Buy can’t replace it I’ll just make an appointment at an Apple Store a different day. That’s just a much longer drive. It’s a perfectly working phone outside of FaceID.

Might have to get AppleCare this go around if I still can after replacement cause I just don’t know if I trust the longevity. I never crack screens but I seem to be cursed in other ways.

My launch day 11 Pro just shut off a few weeks ago when I took a picture with the flash and has never turned back on. My wife’s 11 Pro died this EXACT same way in the very first month and was replaced back then.

Then I buy the 13 at full price and I get this hardware failure. Ugh.
