I've been checking Best Buy for open box items and just noticed that they are now listing new SSD models of the iMac.

Best Buy and other big box retailers only carry the "base" fusion drive iMacs in stock. Usually the 3.0 or the 3.7 and of course the 21.5 spinners.

I've been religiously checking Best Buy for iMac deals since September and this is the first I've seen 256 and 512 models (among others) available. Sure, B&H and other places would have some CTOs already in stock but now that Best Buy is listing them I wonder if they'll start stocking them in the store.

My big complaint with the iMac was that all big box retailers only ever stocked (and you could only ever buy) the fusion option. To take advantage of their (better) sales usually meant walking out with a fusion drive iMac. Obviously Apple had to authorize this so I wonder if this might be a transition here.

What it tells me the fusion drive option was only one they could get in stock because of the price!

I've bought lots of equipment from Best Buy over the years (usually open box) but I've never seen so many SSD models available at Best Buy for iMac--this must be a change authorized by Apple. Until now, you either had to buy an SSD model customized off the Apple website (and waiting) or going to B&H or another specialized retailer that buys a bunch of CTO models already in stock. Could be good news for open box shoppers like me who need to save money on Apple equipment as now Best Buy will start accepting returns of these SSD models also.
