I’m not a professional artist nor do I aspire to be. But I do like to ‘doodle‘ and make illustrations occasionally as a hobby or stress relief or what have you.

What iPad App would you recommend for a casual/hobby type artist? Great use of the Pencil is a priority (I have the Pencil 2 with an iPad Pro 11”). Decent selection of pens, pencils, and brushes are appreciated - certainly don’t need a huge selection. And fairly quick learning curve would be nice.

Where should I start?

(The new Adobe Fresco app prompted this, but no way I am paying $10/mo for an app that’s for fun.)

Thank you! I’ll check it out. I have come across it in my searches. Always seems to make a “top” list.

Anyone else with other recommendations?

Adobe Photoshop Sketch may be best for you right now - it's 100% free, unlike Procreate.

I recommend that because you say "casual"; it's the one I started with before I got better and then I moved up to Procreate.

Okay - after checking reviews and details from several, I went with Procreate. I’m loving it so far. Layers and alpha lock, etc, are really cool. Need to go through a few tutorials to learn more, but this is awesome, pretty easy, and will be more than I ever need.

My first drawing was just tracing a pic of Pennywise and trying to learn to use layers and masks, and airbrushing and stuff like that. It’s not great, but I learned a lot in the process. (had to backup and redo things when I painted on wrong layers, etc).
