best/cheapest Windows

ok, i've done a lot of looking and am really struggling to understand what the best version of windows to use as a bootcamp partition is. I have the windows 7 RC but eventually I need to upgrade to a real deal. I see all these different SP's and OEM's etc and it just confuses me. especially when i try to compare prices. So what would be the best and cheapest option here? i have a 2.86ghz MBP with the 9400m and 9600m gt vid cards. I basically just want to play games because the mac side of gaming leaves much to be desired. Thank you! I do not have a previous version of windows so upgrades do nothing for me, I am a student at UGA though so discounts would be cool. I searched the site and only found a thread that didn't really do anything except ask what i had asked.

soo.... basically just give me the full name of whatever Windows OS you think is best and i will look into it! 64 bit would be awesome. thanks!

You seem like a good candidate for the $29 http://win741.com student deal, especially now that they cleared up the problems with the installer and it has been verified by many that the 64 bit version does not do any kind of upgrade verification.

Even though there are many hints on the win741.com webiste that it is supposed to be an upgrade, various folks have posted here that they have been told by microsoft that that was not the intent.

thanks for the reply! i saw that as i searched this morning and signed up, but it appeared it was an upgrade like you mentioned. I will look at it again to make sure that it isn't and post my results here. thanks!

There are many reports of getting a non-upgrade version in the mail as well as success in installing the downloaded version.

i was looking at another thread on here that you had been commenting in as well. thanks for that one, i saw a link to gizmodo that had an ISO file right there to download. if i'm thinking correctly, i can download that, burn it to a DVD, and then install it via bootcamp? after that i can use a code from microsfot once i buy it to activate. i think.

haha, of course my battery is at 5% when I begin download. 2.5mbps was nice while it lasted. I'll finish the dload when I get home and try it out. you have become my hero today, thanks for all the help. you've been everywhere helping on this topic.
