So, I've been helping one of my good clients out lately with some cheap rates... so I brought it up that i need to get a mac pro to do my heavier work on (been using the powerbook in my sig), and he IMs me today as says it's on it's way!!!! WHOO HOO! he even got the x1900 upgrade and bluetooth...

HAIL YES! How cool is that? Can't wait to join those of you with the sweet set-up. It should go well with my 30" cinema display.

Thats the kind of client I wish we all could have more of...

2.66Ghz
1Gig Ram (ordering 2 more)
x1900 512
single Super Drive (waiting for bluray to drop for the other one
and ordering a couple 500gig drives for it...

just wanted to share my good fortune!

lol killyP.

Yes, but I enjoy silly spellings to a completely juvenile degree.

I sometimes just make up entire words... hahaha.

Yes, a very good client.. I mean, I'm sure I've saved him more than the Mac Pro even, but most clients wouldn't even consider doing that.

iGary...

how could you doubt me so?!

LOL. I know it seems far fetched, but it's absolutely true. I didn't think anyone could be that awesome either, but hey, maybe there is a Santa.

I'll be sure to take pics when it gets here...

the thing thats going to drive me nuts is not having the tracking info... I hope he send it over to me as soon as it ships.

Rock on, technocoy. You'll REALLY love the horsepower of the MP. I'm still amazed at what I can do in no time. It used to take me 12 hours (if I was lucky, sometimes it took 20) to encode a 2 hour video at max quality. It now encodes in real time! 2 hours in 2 hours. :D A 15 minute HD video encoded to H264 full quality only took 30 minutes! It will probably only get better once the software is optimized further for Intel and multi-core processors.

Schweet!!!

Yeah, I'm pretty stoked... I'm wondering what rendering in Maya might be like. And Aperture. And Logic. And Illustrator.

Oh boy Oh Boy Oh Boy.

My luck isn't nearly as good as yours, but I'm working on it. I work at a software house that is a Microsoft shop. I purchased a Mini about a year ago and am ready to switch to a Mac full time at home. Today, I convinced my boss to buy me a ADC membership to investigate development on the Mac Platform. Using the purchase program under ADC, the price of the Mac Pro I have been eying goes from $3188 to $2550. Now time to convince him to purchase it for me...

Looking at the difference in price for upgrades, Apple sure does mark stuff like memory up a massive premium. The 16 gig option is over $1000 cheaper with the ADC discount. It would be worth it to join the program even if you didn't program to get the discount!

Yeah, I have thought of getting an ADC membership myself, but wanted to wait until I really was ready to start learning some Mac development.

As far as karma goes. It might be true. I always try to do right by most and try to put myself in other peoples shoes. empathy not sympathy so to speak. Even when you have been victimized by others you should at least make an effort not to displace that onto everyone (not that it always works, but if you've made a real effort then it's hard to fault you).

I used to think karma was a joke, but after many years of struggle, things have been very bright for me lately and I'm now a voucher for the karma. I feel rather strongly that it's the reason... of course it could just be mind over matter and the fact that I have become a more positive thinker than I used to be, but I prefer to put a little mysticism in there ;-).

Anyway, now that I've spouted my philosophy for the day, haha.

I'm glad other people can appreciate the cool thing that has happened, and I hope similar happens to you all, even if it may not be in the form of a mac pro ;-)
