Does anyone have a stand-out, go to solution for backing up their Plex content? Right now, ALL of my Plex movies and TV shows are stored on a WD MyCloud NAS. I've used up about 2.5TB of space and while I'm not looking to really add anything new right now, I've always worried that my NAS will take a dive at some point (especially since my specific model no longer receives security updates) and I'm looking for a good, reputable provider that will allow me to do full backups.

I've looked into BackBlaze and right now, they're the clear choice BUT I wanted to hear from others about their opinions on the services they use, along with the pros/cons of any of the available services.

I use BackBlaze for backing up my Mac and it has worked well thus far. It would be a good move for your NAS. You also might want to look into getting another NAS to backup the other. I don’t use Backblaze for my Plex because I have 50+ TB.

I use Amazon S3, which is excellent. Glacier is very cheap for long-term storage. I don't back up everything from Plex, just the very hard-to-find content, but still 10GB worth.

Just watch out for S3. If you have to do a restore it will cost you a lot of money. Egress transfer is the main expense. I know someone who did a 6TB NAS restore and it cost them $650 in transfer.

If you have a NAS and it's under 4TB I'd just buy a 4TB SSD, set up an encrypted APFS volume, rsync everything to it and leave it round a friend's house. If you're feeling cheap and don't mind waiting around forever, a 4TB rust disk will do.

I know my needs and costs. He/she is looking for long-term storage for backup protection with no regular outflow at 2.5TB. It's still cheaper than most solutions.

Yeah but when the NAS goes bang, do you want to pay for a new NAS and the egress to restore it?

Also you have to test a restore or it’s not a backup. Which incurs cost!

(This is the day job for ref)

Same, I just know what I am talking about, but whatever.

In that case you might demonstrate that you do by responding the the points on egress cost and testing your backups rather than merely stating that you know what you are talking about.

Incidentally we have about 4PB of backups and data in AWS. It’s expensive but we’re rolling in cash. The average NAS user probably considers cost to be a major factor in their DR strategy.

No, the OP wanted options, so I gave one to investigate and consider. I don't get paid to document it.

My response is standard for any random person on the internet who responds with "This is my day job".

My warning is that the costs are not obvious, which is valid, and should have been outlined if you had a viable trade off approach.

Try crack it makes you feel good! (but avoid mentioning the problems with it)

Not a viable approach to answering a request from someone so they can make an educated trade off or consideration of your point.

Replying on the backblaze point, they do not have a good reputation generally.

I use TeraBox and Mega. One for personal data, one for official use. You could give those two a try.
