I have been using Wipr but wondering if there are any better Content Blockers for Safari? Looking for something that integrates into Safari like Wipr does.

Thanks in advance.

I'm using both uBlock Origin and Ghostery, they seem to work well.

In the past I used AdBlock (not AdBlock Plus, which is a different product), which was also pretty good.

This is probably the wrong forum though, you might have better luck in the Safari forum.

Do those work with the safari API like Wipr and 1blocker?

Ghostery is not needed when used with uBlock Origin. uBlock Origin has the same/more capabilities and does it better. You're slowing down performance by running both. Also I believe Ghostery was bought by a marketing company like Adblock.

uBlock Origin does not work with Apple's API's for good reason. Although I give a hats off to Apple for implementing such a feature their API is inferior and limited in function compared to uBlock Origin. For one, the API only allows a limited number of blocking filters.

To answer your question, uBlock Origin is hands down better than any other blocker. It's lighter, faster, uses less memory/CPU, blocks tracking and many other content types. It also has anti-blocking functionality. It's a HUGE deal that the creators are independently run and passionate about their product and won't be bought out or try and make money off your browsing. Every day another adblocker gets bought out by a marketing company.

Good to know. Does uBlock Origin have an official installer yet?

It does not. It's not in the safari extensions. But there is a very stable well working version on GitHub. Worth the 2 extra steps to install it.

https://github.com/el1t/uBlock-Safari/releases

The program gets updated around once a month.
Edit: but the blocking filters get updated automatically all day, everyday.

1Blocker is good, it seems to get updates frequently, got some advanced settings that I don't actually use/need but you might like it.

I use 1Blocker, which I like because it does a great job of hiding ads, but the built-in rules are too harsh. It will break some sites, and you'll have to whitelist occasionally.

uBlock Origin, as many have mentioned. Also, GlimmerBlocker works at a lower level, as an http proxy. So whatever rules you use with GB work with any browser or http requester.

I am curious to know, what is Wipr falling short of?

Is there no way to unblock certain elements with uBlock? It really screws up YouTube, but there’s seemingly only “ON” or “OFF.”

Am I missing something?

I'm using adguard. Haven't seen any issues with it yet and it does a pretty good job when it comes to ad blocking.

We are talking about content blockers here, not the Adguard App that uses a VPN to filter.

The Adguard extension is a content blocker and if you turn off these two options, they cannot see any of your data.
