Best Coolbook Settings

So coolbook has helped me a tremendous amount but for some reason, as of right now my fans are at 6188rpm meanwhile im only using explorer. What the feck? Does anyone else have problems like this? Nothing else is on and the fans have been screaming for about 15 minutes now. I also have it on a hard surface with the vents entirely open. Heat has been a huge issue with the MBA. I gave up on trying to handbrake movies since it just shuts down on me during the process. I am going to wait until Sept and see what the new macbook has to offer. Hopefully it will be a little lighter or by that time the MBA will have some sort of update that will fix this. Does anyone else think it will be fixed through software update?

Oh yeah, please post your coolbook settings and lets discuss what the best ones are.

Here are mine for both battery and adaptor:

6000-9.0
700-9.0
800-9.0
1200-9750
1400-9875
1600-9875

Throttle level: High
Limit: 85c

Check with Activity monitor what process is using most of the CPU.

Also keep in mind that the frequency-voltage couple are specific of each CPU and what may be good for you may not work correctly for other owners.

From what I understand it's better to remove the 600MHz and the 700MHz settings for you, since they won't give much gains in term of heat reduction than the 800MHz one (since all 3 have a voltage of 0.9V).

If your concern is heat then why would you set a temperature limit? Allow the fans to do what they need to do and sacrifice fan noise for system temperature.

Also, as the above poster said, CB settings are processor specific, however, if you read the CB documentation, I believe it says the B/2 (in other words, your 600 & 700MHz settings) don't apply to the Air, so you might as well get rid of them. You can then switch your throttling level to medium since you'll only have 4 value pairs.

Also, your jump in voltage from 800-1200MHz (0.9 --> 0.9750V) seems a little high to me. The settings are processor specific, but you may benefit from using CPUTest again to see if you can find lower voltages for your 1200, 1400 and 1600 pairs.

I have followed some guide in the other thread, by setting the throttling to high and the max temp to 85c. since then my macbook air keeps completely locked up and all i had to do was a hard reboot.

also going crazy trying to find the ideal coolbook setting to keep my fans from spooling all the way up. currently using:

800@.9000
1200@.9000
1400@.9500
1600@9500

using those specs for for adapter and battery settings. currently im just browsin with safari and fan is at 6200rpm at 51 deg celcius. im confused. what is the normal operating temp to keep the fan at 2500 rpm anyway?

Not sure about your last question but the best thing to do with CoolBook is to find the "base" voltage-frequency pairs, as explained in the manual. Those will give you the lowest temperature while retaining the processing power.
