looking for advice on the best download app for iPad
will be away from home and a real computer for a few months so need something good, at the min a lot of them seem to have teething issues
what do you use/hate? why?

someone recently mentioned Downloader.

It's a comment in another thread.

definitely need an iPad app sub forum

If you have an app that registered to handle certain file types, you can download that type of file in safari then save or open using that app

I'm using downloader for few weeks and I'm happy with it. You can browse the web or view files and download something at the same time. Few crashes every once and a while, but worth purchasing. Last update added file sharing via itunes and usb cable. You can open downloaded files in other apps. If you copy link from safari, you don't have to paste it, it's already there download.

How does this work? I've never been able to do it but if there's a way, that'd be really great.

downloader is the best because it lets you ub zip all kinda files most files that u will download. they just added the itunes sync to it. it does what it claims to do pretty good. but it could be better

The developer must implement this function in their app. Apps known to have this feature currently:

pages, numbers, keynote

goodreader, air sharing HD (various file types)

iunarchive (rar/zip/tar file)

I know that but how do I download files from Safari like you said? I'm on my school's Blackboard site with a link to a PowerPoint file. When I tap and hold on it, all I get is "Open," "Open in New Page," and "Copy."

Edit: I have Keynote and Goodreader installed.

Does this mean u can unextract rar files? if so, I can download rar files for movies on rapidshare and unextract them on the ipad and watch it? I'm guessing it would have to be mp4 format.

Yes! I forget to mention it has a built in media player.

Downloader

You can download .rar./.zip
You can unrar and unzip archives.
You can delete the archive
You can file manage
You can ftp to the iPad to retrieve your files
You can upload files to the iPad
You can send files to Good Reader and Air Sharing + MORE
You can play/view your downloaded files in the app
The Browser is the Fastest Hands Down. Its Dusting the comp.

holy ****! that's awesome!

It's also able to send downloaded pictures to Photogene. Another must have app if you like to edit and re-size pictures.

Man this app is nice, downloading iron man in mp4 while surfing with the built in browser while waiting for the download! It'd be amazing if it downloaded in the background while I do other things on the iPad... But oh well this is good enough!

Tap "Open", a blank page should be loaded while it is downloading the file

After downloading completes, you will see a button with "Open with..." option in the middle of that blank page.

Downloader won't allow me to download rar files in safari and i don't like to copy/past url or switch to built-in browser everytime. That's why I have to buy another app "iunarchive" which has perfect safari support.

I believe this is a bug and have submitted it to the developer.

Thanks! It wasn't doing that on the Blackboard site for some reason.
