[I would have posted this in the massive 6S/+ thread, but I suspect they're a slightly different animal...]
I somehow cracked the corner on the original no-name glass protector on my 6 plus recently and wanted a replacement. It was annoyingly thick anyway, and the perimeter edges had collected a bunch of detritus, making them off-white.
Since I've never been too crazy about spending a ridiculous sum on a sacrificial piece of thin glass, I quickly narrowed it down to the Daswise and the Anker GlassGuard+, which are both ~$10 shipped from Amazon.
The Daswise seems to be one of the better-liked options around here (if not perfect; I don't think any of them are) and reasonably priced, but for me, the known quantity of Anker's support, lifetime guarantee, and 30 day return/satisfaction policy won out.
(Unknown quality of support also ruled out some of the other cheaper options. Much of the stuff discussed in this forum comes from the same pool of Chinese ODM suppliers. Create a brand, line one up, and you're in business. While there can be design and quality differences, more often than not, they're small, so much of what you're buying is the backing of the company.)
Another concern was the apparent difference between the original 6/plus and S series screens, which is enough for some to designate separate versions for each generation. Anker's GlassGuard+ for the original 6 series is still available, albeit at $20. The newer GlassGuard+ "Compact" is listed as compatible with both original and S series, and half the price, so between that, the no-risk guarantee, and promise of compatibility, it got the nod.
Eh, what about the product itself? So far, so good.
I'm happy to report that adhesion to my 6 Plus is complete, and there is no visible "halo," despite multiple lift/reset attempts to get a good dust-free and properly-aligned installation. A small, stubborn bubble on one corner of the screen area disappeared within a few hours. It also plays well with my Carved Traveler case.
One minor thing to note that the cutouts at the top are slightly off; the vertical distance between the earphone pill and the round sensor cutouts is a little too much. If the earphone is centered, the round cutouts will be too high; if the round cutouts are centered, the earphone is slightly low. Perhaps that's one of the differences with the S series, but it's not enough to bother me.
I'm not sure if the button alignment tool is necessarily a difference maker. It can be helpful, but someone with steady hands and a good eye can get along fine without using it.
The Anker glass is definitely thinner than the previous protector. I'm not sure how thick it was, but it protruded above the edges of the case; the Anker is flush, so no "face down" protection, but I think that's just the nature of the case. The old GG+ is listed at 0.38mm; Anker doesn't give specs for the current one.
Another side benefit of the thinner glass is the TouchID now works more consistently. I suspect the thickness of the old protector was preventing good fingerprint reads, enough so that it was more a nuisance than a feature.
One could justifiably concerned reading all of the bad experiences with screen protectors in this forum. Perhaps they stem from model differences, production tolerances (for both the screens and the protectors), or all of the above.
But they don't preclude good experiences either. Still, I'm sure many are cursing Ive and Co., and hope that they go back to completely flat screens as with previous iPhones.
