I love MacRumors, but this iPhone programming forum is brand new. Is there a better forum out there to ask questions? Or is this "the one" that people have been going to?

Up to now there has been no real forum because the Apple SDK was (and still is) under an NDA.

I don't understand how the SDK can still be under NDA. Anybody can download the iPhone SDK and read all about the API calls, how they work, and so on. What part is secret, exactly?

Well yes you can download it and read the docs BUT to get to it you have to register as an iPhone Developer and with that you accept an NDA agreement.

You can download Xcode 3.1 freely without being registered as an iPhone Developer but it doesn't include the iPhone SDK.

*shrug* Thems the rules that Apple has put in place.

I dunno man! I signed up for a free developer account, whatever it's called (ADK? ADC?), and I can download the iPhone SDK. I can write my own apps, no prob, just can't transfer them to my phone as that costs $99.

I didn't agree to any NDA, as far as I'm aware. Unless I breezed past it.

There is a PDF linked below the SDK which says

5.1 Information Deemed Confidential
You agree that the SDK licensed hereunder, the terms and conditions of this Agreement, and any
other non-public information that You learn about Apple’s products, designs, research,
development, know-how, or Apple’s business, finances or personnel, or non-public third party
information, in connection with this Agreement or in connection with Your use of any part of the
SDK will be deemed “Apple Confidential Information” under this Agreement.

So even quoting that I am breaking the NDA. Go figure.

Ah I see it.

That's ridiculous. How can the terms & conditions be under NDA when they're in plain sight? It says "non-public".. and that PDF is certainly public. Then again, the whole SDK is really public too.

I don't get it. But whatever. Check it out, there's a class called UIButton.. oh no, I'm going to jail! :p
