Okay, after searching A LOT on the web for free fps similar to cod games, I have finally accumulated a few really good ones!
Many of these are almost unknown, but still amazing. I am not posting any of the sci-fi ones like Nexuiz, since I am posting more modern, cod-like games. I will post some now:

  1. NUMBER ONE GAME: Team fortress 2 (tf2). You get it off of steam, and it is the only free fps on steam for mac. Really really good!
  2. Number two: Urban Terror. This is awesome, except no stats and no unlockable items... which could be good or bad
  3. Number 3: Uberstrike! (previously known as paradise paintball). This is actually browser-based, and you can play it off of Facebook, so it is really nice. Graphics are good, and anti-hack is awesome
  4. Number four: Sanctioned Renegades. Almost no one knows about this game (there are only like 10-12 people on at a time) but it is similar to cod. It is browser based or downloadable, and I would suggest download, as it works a lot faster. Only one game mode, in which you capture points, but it has amazing graphics and a destructible enviroment. Really a good, underestimated find

Others, such as Wolfenstein ET and games like that, I have had problems downloading/playing. There was a website with a list of best free fps mac that was really good, but I forgot it. I have never seen Sanctioned renegades listed on any lists, either, so this is not a duplicate of those common lists. Please comment with your favorite cod-like games, and if it works and is good, I'll put it up here with credit to you! Yay....

P.S. If you have a REALLY nice sci-fi game or other games that aren't as cod-like, put em up anyway...

It sounds more like "best free FPS games on the Mac!", because from what little I played of COD it plays nothing at all like TF2.

The coloured text is annoying. The lime green one in particular is difficult to read against white, which you'd know if you "had ANY brains at all". (slightly joking ;))

Okay, sorry. I'll clarify.
By cod-like I mean a general fps that isn't set in a sci-fi enviroment (I don't like those much:rolleyes:). Generally stats and upgradeable items. When choosing among Mac free fps, you can't get too picky about cod-similarness. On PC, there would be a lot more that were a lot more like cod, but PCs fail.
Mac all the way!:cool::apple::apple::apple::cool:

if iam not wrong team fortress is more like unreal tournament and not like cod, anyways i haven't heard of other games that you have mentioned so will download them to see what kind of gaming experience they give.

I think Uberstrike is more of a "softer COD online".

By the way, you can get the Mac app for Uberstrike, which is more stable and you get some free weapons. It is $9.99 in the Mac App Store.

Even though it is not free, I would recommend Counter-Strike Source since we are looking for games like Call of Duty. Its been around longer than Call of Duty and is in my opinion better.

Okay, first: about Saurbraten. (Hope I spelled that right).
It is kind of futuristic, and it has slightly worse graphics. It is actually very similar to what Uberstrike used to be (Paradise Paintball). The only difference is the maps. I think that you would have to try it out for yourself. I personally think it is good, but not as good as some other games.

Counter Strike really is a good game (or so I've heard... I don't have it :( )
That is one of the most cod-like games out there, but not f2p...:(

Gaming is 100x better on Windows though.

Yeah, until the game crashes, you have "Not Responding", and your whole computer messes up, and you have to force restart.

Mac: option:command:esc, you pull up a more friendly task manager, and force quit. All your other programs still work.

End task doesn't work quite as well...:D

Anyway, we (I) are getting off topic.

By the way, after I changed the colors back to black on my thread, and I posted that, I got two dislikes.

I would recommend buying Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike Source either way, they are both dirt cheap and will give you years of entertainment. I have been playing Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike Source for about 2-3 years now and they never get old.

Yeah, they're great. However, new players of CSS should go in with the expectation that you'll be murdered. Cause you will.

Also Team Fortress 2 is F2P so there is no reason to not give it a go.

Uh-oh. I think someone bought TF2 when it was not free... sorry;)

There are free and premium accounts for TF2, the TF2 FAQ has a run down in the differences.

http://www.teamfortress.com/freetoplay/faq.php

and I only paid $2 for Team Fortress 2 during a Steam sale for the Orange Box for $10 total which included Half-Life 2, HL2 Episode 1, HL2 Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 when it used to be 20 dollars.

All of that aside though Team Fortress 2 is a great free-to-play games while CSS is the best alternative to Call of Duty if you feel like paying $20 dollars for a great FPS on OSX+Windows.

I bought TF2 in 2007 when it was £26 for HL2, Ep1, Ep2, Portal and TF2. I paid £4.30 for a game that has sucked around 1000 hours of my life away for the past 4 years.
I feel sorry for anyone who waited this long to play TF2!

Well... one of you payed 20 and the other payed 10 for the same deal... plus, in pounds, too man! I feel sorry for you! Anyway, I only found out about TF2 BECAUSE it was free. I'm really glad I did, though!
