Best free emulator for Nintendo 64?

I have a MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.2

And I downloded a sixtyforce emulator, and a rom, and it works fine, but I can't save it unless I register with sixtyforce for like $17 or something.

I've tried downloading mupen64 numerous times, but nothing so far has worked for me when I try opening a rom with it.

Are there any other good free emulators out there? Or is buying sixtyforce for a little money the best thing for me to do?

I'm verryyy new to all this stuff! So if you explain something, please explain it in great detail haha xP

Sixtyforce works awesome even on Lion.

Sixtyforce is the best out there, but if you really are so cheap that you can't pay $17 to support a developer that is making great software for you, then we have something in common
