So I've been playing Guild Wars, but obviously there's no Mac support for it. I'm not wanting to upgrade the old PC I have to play one game, so I was wondering if there were any good MMOs out there (preferably free, but either way) that are playable on the PC and Mac (wife still has her PC and we want to play together).

I know there's always WoW, but that $15/mo is kinda steep (in my opinion). Any suggestions?

WoW on hacked servers? There are servers with thousands playing at the same time. I never played WoW but my friends play it for free.

I think you have to pay for every MMO for Mac. Eve is a fun MMO if you have time to get into it. You could always use Crossover to play guild wars on the mac. it works great!

I'm waiting out Diablo 3!

Crossover? I'm looking at the website right now, but what can you tell me about it? Is it reasonably easy to use? What are your GW framerates like?

Or you could use Boot Camp to just install Windows and run anything with no speed penalty (and it seems you may already have a copy of Windows, so it would be free).

Also, see attachment. ;)

Minions of Mirth cost $20-something to purchase I think, but it has no subscription fees.

There are lots of free MMOs for the Mac.

Planeshift is probably one of the better ones.

The Planeshift Screenshots look pretty good. How does it compare to WoW if you've played WoW?

Reagarding free WoW servers, what would scare me about that would be wondering if the server is going to be there tomorrow. It's too much work to put into a toon if you can afford the subscription fee.

The only downside is that on my Macbook with the X3100 video card there's a known-issue where Diablo II won't launch. They assure me/us they're working on it...hope to see that patch sometime in the next few months.

It just came out but you may want to try Pirates of the Caribbean.

This might be a fun game for you and your spouse and it can be played on both a Mac and a PC.

Kinda curious about this game myself. . . Is it a true immersive MMO or a dumbed down game aimed at younger audiences. . . I ask because mini games are usually a bad sign in an MMo, IMHO. . .

Okay, there's one that's more foreign, and most people find it strange, but I personally liked it a lot. It's called Dofus (do a search, you can't go wrong). It's 2D, and once you reach a certain level, if you don't upgrade to membership, then it gets really hard to level up farther... but once you make it that far, you've been playing for quite a while.

Apart from that, you could google runescape servers or something like that. Examples are Corruptionx and Near Reality. They are like Runescape, except hacked so that you level up faster. There, it is more about Player vs. Player. Don't get too excited, though, because accounts don't transfer to and from there.
