Guys, I quite fancy a game for my 3.06 ATI iMac, to put it through its paces.

It will be my first EVER non console game also.

any reccomendations on what is top of the tree at the moment????

I'm mainly a consloe gamer myself but with my first decent computer in some time I'm also interested in some good games. Sadly most have to be run in Boot Camp as Mac is still lagging very far behind, but here are some of my reccomendations:

Left 4 Dead (Or pretty much anything on Steam)
Civ. IV
Company of Heros
Empire Total War

I'm also interested in but haven't played:
Dawn of War 2
Crysis
Spore

Also I assume you've played the Call of Duty series on your console, if not it is a must play.

Mac games:

Call of Duty 4
Star Wars: Empire at War
World of Warcraft
Command & Conquer 3
Battlefield 2142
World of Goo

There are a lot more games coming out, and ones that are older. I tried to stick to newer games, but if you don't mind graphics then there are hundreds of games. I recommend Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2. And if you don't mind running Boot Camp, then you can play all the Windows games.

Sid Meier's Pirates!. It's a great game, but then again, it's one of the few I'm actually interested in! Pirates are cool:cool:
SG :apple:

Oldies but well worth playing - Doom 3 and Quake 4. Also having tons of fun with Icewind Dale, but I knew that one before from my PC times ...

I don't know if I should recommend this, but currently Diablo 2 is the only program on my brand new iMac 3.06. I've been replaying Diablo 2 online lately with some friends before the release of Diablo 3. It's more of a re-experience of Diablo 2 for us. :)

If you don't mind gfx being a little old (which your system will run fine)

Age of Mythology is a great game.

Newer games, I would recommend Command and Conquer 3 and Red Alert 3 if you are into RTS games.. And those will use your gfx card more.. Warcraft 3 is also a nice game.

Add to this list "Fable". It's a classic RPG and runs native on Mac (make sure it's the universal disc as they still have some PC only DVD's on shelves as well) and just had an update released (finally) that takes care of the one common issue found on the Mac port. It's an older game but with the graphics max still looks amazing on an iMac although it will hardly put it through "it's paces".
