Hi everyone,

This is a question for all the gamers out there!

What are the best games, that are "known" to be compatible with the new Intel iMacs running Snow Leopard?

Thanks for any replies.

I have ran WoW, COD4 and Aion(in bootcamp) all at max settings and it runs at 40-50fps, the only thing I don't turn up is AA, Aion looks amazing btw damn. I just got x-plane9 in today and can't wait to get home and install it.

So far I have run COD4, L4D, and Sims 3 natively on my i5 with max settings. Only issue was with Left4Dead, which for some reason had the NPCs flickering. I didn't try to solve it, just moved onto COD4, which ran so smooth I haven't put it down yet.

I've got the i7 iMac. In Boot Camp (Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit), I've run the following games so far:

L4D2 demo
Crysis Warhead
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl

L4D2's recommended settings set me up at 1900x1200 with all game settings on High and 4xMSAA. I bumped it up to the screen's native res and took off MSAA. It looks gorgeous game proved to be very playable. I turned on the console FPS graph (cl_showfps 1 in console) and the frames were typically between 30 and 60 (had vsync enabled, double buffering), at times it dipped below 30. So like I said, this is totally playable, but I did notice some stuttering that affected my aim during gameplay (was using a USB PC mouse, not Magic Mouse). I found two ways to get rid of the stuttering: either bump down the shader detail to Medium (boooo) or change the res to 1080x720 and bump the MSAA back up to 4x. The latter method was my preferred choice because the shader details give the game it's character.

I didn't get to play as much Crysis Warhead, but the game recommended that my settings all be set to Gamer (which is High). I put the resolution at 1080x720 because there's no way the game will run well at native res. I didn't get into any particularly huge firefights, but the game runs at a respectable rate (I'd guess >30 FPS, though I didn't set a console graph or use FRAPS to measure it).

Same thing for STALKER, except that ran on High at native res with similar frame rates. Downloaded the STALKER Complete Mod 2009 (which overhauls the graphics), but didn't get the chance to install it yet, so I'm not sure how that will affect the frame rate. Vanilla STALKER ran great, though (except for a no sound issue I'm having--buggy game).

I'll be trying Overlord 2, TF2 and a few others this weekend.

Even for the base 27" iMac, you can still run most of the games out there.
Just load up BootCamp, and that should do the trick.

But as far as OS X games go.. I haven't been hearing too many awesome things about gaming on them.
I'm actually not a PC gamer, I just use my xbox 360 if I wanna play a game, but from what I've heard, most new games that are out now, will be out for OS X in a few years maybe.
Or months.
It depends on what company makes the game.

It just seems so weird to me that I can play more games on my iPhone than I can on my Macs haha.

But yeah, when it comes to gaming, BootCamp is the way

It's nothing like Second Life really, except for the fact its an online game. If you like something like Zelda Ocarina of Time, and wouldnt mind an online version of it to play with others, WoW is a good game to try out.
If you're not into fantasy, then maybe not ;)

Surprised you havn't heard of it, considering its one of the most popular games (especially amongst mac users)

Yeah I am not into gaming at all. Maybe that is why, but now I looked at the game and I cant believe I have not heard of it before. It is huuuuge!!!

do you think Starcraft 2 and diablo III could be run on the new i7 imacs at native resolution with high settings? those are the only two games im looking forward to playing
