Best general ebook reader?

I've seen people say Stanza is the best generic ebook reader.

Is there an ebook reader that I can simply download pdfs/txt and view them?

What do you use to read books like Dan Brown's novels, etc? I don't have the money for an iPad yet.

I have Kindle, Stanza and Barnes and Noble E-Reader. Kindle is my favorite, and the books are cheap. Stanza is my next favorite, it has a great interface and pulls from Project Gutenberg, which gives you tons of free books. The Barnes and Noble reader is passable, but I don't like the interface as well as the others. But, it works with B&N gift cards, so it's great to use those up. Try them all out, all three are free, and see what works best for you. I decided to go with Kindle if I'm buying, Stanza for PG books, and B&N for gift card purchases only.

The Stanza reader is really nice and works well and it's my favorite. Barnes and Noble's reader is nice, but buggy and crash prone. Not a big fan of the way the Kindle reader looks, but it does give you access to the largest library of ebooks.

I prefer the Kindle app, mainly because it allows you to sync your Kindle books between your iPhone/iPod, PC, Mac (soon to come), and actual Kindle device. So wherever you leave off on one device, you can pick up at that same location on another. And the books are cheap (for now).

In terms of quality of reading, you're still using a non-e-Ink screen, so it's only going to be so good for the eyes no matter which app you choose.

I have a Kindle so Amazon Kindle is the one I use most but I also use Dropbox a lot for my non-DRM pdfs, go figure. I do have all of the Googlebooks, GoodReader, eReader, Wattpad, and use Book Player for free audio and Local Books to see who is signing what, where also to keep track for Fairs.

I love the Kindle app. I have 15 books on it. I just love the ease of use, wireless downloading of books, and the interface. I have Stanza, but hardly ever use it.

Goodreader all the way.

I'm using Stanza, it allows me to download a crapload of free books and also allows me to upload my own books that I get online.

Also stanza has more options to configure, mainly brightness of the screen by simply swiping my finger up or down.
