Hello all,

I have an iMac 3ghz w/ GF8800 512. I'm playing games using Bootcamp and XP SP3, and since iMacs are all the same I was wondering what people have found were the best graphics settings for the games they play. I'm not lazy so much as I don't know which settings to choose that have the best bang for the buck.

If you have worked all this out and have things set for the best graphics possible while still getting a decent fps, could you please list your settings for those of us that just aren't that graphics savvy. You'll have my appreciation for sure.

I'm currently playing (in XP using Bootcamp):
CoD4
CoD WaW
Fallout 3

Thanks again,

Dalmuti

It depends on taste

-resolution
-texture quality
-anti-alising
-frame rate

Typically a game would detect your settings.

Taste certainly does factor into it, a lot. Myself? I always like to make certain that I get a smooth 30-40 fps. To ensure this, Anti-Aliasing and Shadows are often the first settings to go. After that, it can get tricky. My brother, on the other hand, always seems to have been comfortable playing games like World of Warcraft at a paltry 20-25 fps. I don't know how he can stand it...

I play cod4 on the same imac

I set the resolution to 1920x1200 and almost everything at best. I think shadows and AA are off as you said. I usually get 50-60fps on most maps, drops to 40 if looking far on some maps. I also turned off bloom and depth of field which are annoying when playing online. If FPS is still too low for you, try playing in 1650x1024, you will get about 10-15 more FPS.

The question is far too vague. You need to experiment with your system and various settings until you get the game performance where you want it. There is no simple answer, there are too many variables.
