Best hack for "Status Bar" Battery ##% in color?

I want to remove the battery icon in the status bar and just have the number displayed. A bonus would be to have the number in color (green - full charge, yellow, red) like this:

100%
55% <--yellow :)
16%

Is there a *FREE* hack to getting just the number (with/without the %, I don't care about the % either way). I found one but it's a trial. And the color thing would be nice if one exists...

Also, is there a way to make the Status Bar always be black? That way, the yellow would display better.
